Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – December 2, 2011   A husband and wife team have taken a bold step and will host a festival aimed at bringing culture, cuisine and caring for others together in an event they have labeled the ‘Hard Times Fest’.

It will take place on Saturday December, 10, 2011 at the parking lot of the Casablanca Casino in Grace Bay from noon to midnight.

“We have been putting off this dream of ours for years, but we know that now is the time to create an avenue for people to come together in a festive celebration which takes their minds off how rough it might be for them financially.  We want people to come out and feel free to enjoy delicious food and live band music and unique experiences like a petting zoo with little ponies.  It is really going to be a terrific time,” explained Tameka Deveaux-Francis, former Miss Turks and Caicos Earth 2007-2008.

With husband, Heath also a well known personality, the pair formed Double Helix Production, which is just as concerned about bringing good will as they are about bringing a down home flavour.

“Everybody knows times are tough but we want to take people’s minds off of themselves and their problems for a while anyway.  Soon we will start up our caring and sharing concept for the Hard Times Fest.  We are calling it ‘Supportive Hands’ and already companies are coming on board with items that people need and that we will sometimes raffle and sometimes just give away to deserving families and individuals,” said Heath Francis, President of Helix Production.

It is true as the first Hard Times Fest will feature the raffle of several much sought after prizes including a 32” flat screen colour TV, donated by Kischo.

The couple revealed that there will be live band music from Turks and Caicos recording artists, Keno and Kaz and native delicacies like ‘Coco Lumps’; Coconut Duce and lots of conch dishes from area restaurants which will set up at the site.

“We have gone ahead and invited visitors to the country to come out so that they can see the culture of the Turks and Caicos Islands.  Resorts are always happy to point their guests in the direction of activities like this and it makes it better that we are near the worlds’ best beach, Grace Bay Beach.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board will take advantage of this opportunity and has confirmed that it will promote its ‘Sister Islands’ campaign.

Entry fee to the Hard Times Fest is minimal, $1 per person.

Scores of booths featuring food, culture, arts and craft and drinks will be set up from noon for the 12-hour inaugural event, which launches the series this Saturday and kick starts the Christmas season in the TCI.
