confident demeanor, dazzling smile, standout physique and captivating stage
presentation – bested them all.
“I
am truly ecstatic that I won. I prepared myself, took on board the advice and
coaching provided, and went out on that stage with the knowledge that I was the
winner. And with my faith and belief that I can do all things in Christ who
strengthens me – I felt self assured that the crown was mine,” said a beaming
Latoya of her win.

winning the
‘Facebook Like Me’ award
with 386 votes. Owning to this, Radio Turks & Caicos (RTC) has invited
Latoya to do spot show - live on air.
The
Miss Body Beautiful TCI Pageant is one that aspires women to appreciate the
beauty of whom they are inside and out. As a fitness and personal growth competition, the
show is geared towards empowering women to have a positive image of self, that
they can accept their bodies as they are – thereby showcasing it in its entire
splendor. The pageant was open to
ladies 18 years of age and older, with no restriction on height, body shape,
marital status or nationality. Through the event, contestants gained from
the exposure and the experience, which will do well for their personal growth,
development and potential modeling career.
The
pageant saw the contestants compete for a
LIME
advertising campaign, cellular phones with service plans, resort stays,
cash and numerous fabulous prizes. What is more, in the run up to the event,
all contestants had the opportunity to get as fit as they possibly could with
complementary training courtesy of
Rock
It Hot Fitness Studio. Additionally, they partook in workshops on ‘The
Ultimate You! Living to Love Yourself’ hosted by
Mrs Tremainne Swann-Harvey, ‘Fitness and Healthy Eating’ conducted
by
Miss Straudy Lightbourne - along
with stage presentation by
Courtney
Robinson, the event’s Executive Producer.
There
were three disciplines of competition before the contestants were whittled down
to the top five. Namely: introduction, swimwear and fantasy wear. During each
segment, they were judged on their confidence, personality, performance and
overall stage presentation.
As pageant of
diversity, so too were the judges. Head judge was
Wenieka Ewing, Miss Turks & Caicos Universe 2004/5 who represented the Turks and Caicos Islands at the
2005 Miss Universe Pageant held in Bangkok Thailand where she won the Ministry
of Tourism and Sports Award for her national costume which she designed; that,
along with placing third runner’s up at the 2005 Miss Caribbean World Pageant
in Tortola, BVI - winning Miss Intellect.
The remaining
judges included Kazz Forbes, noted Photographer and Fashion Designer for Saint
George Fashion House; Mrs Delleriece Hall, Vice President of Corporate Sales,
LIME Telecommunications; John Wright, Proprietor – Wrightfully Fit Fitness
Center; and Mrs Constance Lighbourne-Cousins, the first Miss Turks & Caicos
(1979) to represent the Turks & Caicos at the Miss Universe Pageant in
Seoul, Korea in 1980.
After
the cut, making the top five were Shamarah Rigby, Janice Bernadin, Straudia
Forbes, Sarantina Phlintrophe and Latoya Pinder. However, to garner a winner,
the five remaining ladies had to answer the surprise question of the night:
“Why do you think your body is beautiful?”
This pushed the ante up a notch, as it formed the true indication of who the
winner may be.
Scores
generated from the question & answer segment combined with the contestants’
previous scores revealed that Latoya Pinder was the won Miss Body Beautiful TCI
2012. Janice Bernadin was named First Runner’s Up, with Straudia Forbes placing
second.
The
pageant featured the re-launching of
Black
Out, Turks & Caicos’s premier recording artists and international act.
Its members, Orane Peanknock, Romaine “Trigga App” Pinnock, Eustace “E-Swann”
Swann and Twiston “Twis-Flo” Florbes took to the stage twice – giving the
audience a showcase they wont soon forget. Also giving a standout performance
was
DMV with lead signer Donessia
Gardiner accompanied by backing dancers Vanessa Hall
and Jelicia Skippings entertaining like none other.
Audley “Illegal Poet” Astwood said two of his highly acclaimed
poems. To cap things off,
Dion Pratt Jnr
took to the stage with two fabulous dance routines that had the audience on
their feet as the young ballet and jazz dancer pumped up the volume.
The inaugural
Miss Body Beautiful TCI Pageant surely surpassed the hype and gave the audience
a lot more than they bargained for. The show returns next year with an
additional component – “
Mr Best Body”. The
dual event will take place at the end of June 2013! This double header will not
be one to miss!
