For the fashion enthusiasts around the Caribbean,
Saturday nights mean only one thing; Mission Catwalk. The exciting show done in Jamaica features the top young fashion designers in the Caribbean, and this season boasts two from The Bahamas.
After episode 6, the show is now down to the top 8 contestants, with both Bahamian contenders still in it, to win it.
Since being in the top three placements for all individual challenges leading
up to episode 6, "island boy" David Rolle of Nassau, Bahamas finally got his first win on May 18th.
David had this to say about his design inspiration and how he felt after
winning the challenge in episode 6 of Mission Catwalk,
season 3.
"My design inspiration came directly from the fabrics. The challenge for this
episode was based on up-cycling looks from previous episodes. Because of this, I had little control over my fabric selection. I ended
up with a male denim jacket and forest green denim pants. I
immediately thought to myself, military! From the look provided, I was
able to produce what is best described as a denim cap sleeve sheath
dress with peplum waistline," said Rolle. "While very sleek and easy on the eyes, this
dress has details at every viewpoint, from a bright-yellow lined
peplum, an exposed metal jacket zipper, and delicate curves at the back to accentuate the female form. I
gave a modern take on the traditional cap sleeve, keeping the cut of
the denim dress very feminine. I used the pant provided to create a
military inspired hat, and a small clutch."
"This episode I came in with fire in my bones, and it was rewarding to
finally taste victory, however, I don't want to forget the competition ahead. So this means a short, but sweet
celebration, then back to work."
As of
Monday, May 20th,
fans can head over to Lee's Tropical Plaza (Kingston, Jamaica.) and try
to get their hands on one of the reproduced winning designs.
ZNS plans to re-air this episode in The Bahamas on Wednesday night.
