Bahamas International Film Festival opens with British comedy and Hispanic gala

Paradise Island - The Bahamas International Film Festival got underway last evening, December 2nd with the hilarious British comedy, Tamara Drewe directed by Stephen Frears and written by Moira Buffini.  American television and film critic, Jeffrey Lyons.

Founder of the Bahamas international Film Festival, Leslie Vanderpool welcomed guests to the Festival now in its 7th year. Also giving remarks was the Minister of Youth Sports and Culture, the Hon Charles Maynard, the Bahamas Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, David Johnson and Stuart Bowe of Atlantis, a major sponsor and host for most of the festival events this year.

After the screening Miss Vanderpool  introduced Sammy T, who will be featured at the closing night party, "Sammy T and his Tight Trousers" to be held at the Green Parrot on Sunday night. Sammy's sister is an actor in the film Tamara Drewe.

The movie let out to a cultural display of a Junkanoo rush out which led the guests through Atlantis towards Royal Towers Great Hall of Water where Fiesta Hispana, the opening night gala took place. Guests enjoyed professional Flamenco dancers, Spanish guitar, Latin Singer Yulee B., and native foods from Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Panama, Bolivia and Spain.
