DNA PR: It's time to change the system

The Prime Minister came out of hiding and concluded the final chapter of his mind games earlier today when he finally announced that the general elections will be held on September 16, 2021. This is welcome news for our people who have been ready to vote this uncaring and incompetent government out of office.

Bahamians now know that the Prime Minister lied when he stated that elections will not be held until 2022. We now know that the Prime Minister lied when he promised to implement fixed election dates. It is clear that the Prime Minister lied when he said his focus was on the health crisis facing our nation and not the next general elections. We can also say that the Prime Minister lied when he said he was committed to transparency and accountability.

In the face of scandal after scandal, allegations of corruption exposed by a recent US report, serious accusations from the Auditor General and the recent debacle involving Minister Renward Wells, the PM decided to ring the bell. It is clear that this FNM administration will go down as one of the worst in our nation’s history.

The general elections will take place in the midst of a surge in COVID-19 cases, a major health crisis and a collapsed healthcare system. This is the legacy of Hubert Alexander Minnis. He will be remembered as the Prime Minster who tried to break the spirit of our people and presided over a period of hopelessness, disrespect, misery and corruption in our nation.

The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) is ready to turn the chapter on one of the darkest periods in our nation’s history. We have come to this self defining moment which demands that all Bahamians come together to change the direction of our nation. Bahamians of all ages must unite in the fight for the soul of our nation. It is time for change. It is time to change an oppressive and failing system which shuts out the majority of our people.

The bell has been rung and the wind of change is blowing across our islands. We say to Bahamians: hold on just a little longer. Brighter and better days are ahead of us. We have been through the fire and much challenges but the tide is about to turn in our favor. Let hope rise again for a glorious future in our commonwealth.  On election day,  vote for the DNA to change the system. The DNA is ready for battle.
