Nassau, The Bahamas – In a move to improve drainage, reduce conflict and enhance safety and traffic movements, Gladstone Road is being converted to a dual carriageway.
Minister of Public Works, the Hon. Desmond Bannister announced plans for the three-mile-long single carriage (JFK Drive to Carmichael Road) during his contribution to the 2021/2022 Budget Debate.
“Due to the high volume of traffic and conflicts that it sees on a daily basis, it is functioning well below its design level.

“The Ministry has engaged the JV team of Engineering & Technical Services Ltd. and Parsons to deliver a design for and monitor the construction of the upgraded corridor. When the design is completed the corridor will be converted from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway,” said Minister Bannister.
The carriageway will include the following: four 12-foot travel lanes, two in each direction; a central median; the improvement of the six major junctions; improved drainage; properly designated bus lay bays and shelters.
