PM Christie to open National Training Symposium

Nassau, The Bahamas -- Spotlighting
the importance of national training, Prime Minister and Minister of
Finance Perry Christie on Oct. 31, 2013, will officially open the symposium
to underscore the Data Protection Commissioner’s Office mandate to
provide public training.
Being held at the Sheraton Nassau
Beach Resort, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm. under the theme “Data Protection
in a 21st Century World," this first national training symposium,
will close with a recognition luncheon for industry experts and participants. This year’s honourees are: Ms. Rowena Bethel, principal architect
for the Bahamas’ e-Commerce legislation, George Rodgers, first
Data Protection Commissioner and Superintendent Paul Rolle, former head
of cyber crime.
Symposium speakers include: Mrs.
Sharmie Farrington Austin, Data Protection Commissioner, Mark
Barret, head of cyber crime, Mrs. June Collie, director, Department
of Information Technology, Ms. J. Lashell Adderley, legal and compliance
manager, Bahamas First Group of Companies, and Christiaan Sawyer, managing
director, Sunryse Shredding Services. Other industry stakeholders such
as the Data Protection Commissioner’s Office of Canada, DC Technology,
and C.T.I Cellular & Electronics will also participate via product
demonstrations and presentations.
