 The Bahamas is coming back stronger than ever, Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis said today before cutting the ribbon for the opening of Baha Mar’s $200 million waterpark, Baha Bay.
Prime Minister Minnis said scores of jobs and economic opportunities for Bahamians, including new opportunities, are on the way.
“Indeed, today, is yet another wonderful and powerful sign of the recovery and revival of The Bahamas”, said the Prime Minister.
With this latest investment, Baha Mar has created over 500 job opportunities, with additional availabilities for more associates, said Prime Minister Minnis, adding that in July, Baha Mar will have over 3,500 associates.
The 15-acre beachfront waterpark welcomes both Bahamian and international guests, with public access and day passes being made available in late summer 2021.
Guests can experience several amenities, including 24 water slides, group raft rides, a wave pool, action river winding through a tropical landscape, a first-of-its-kind Surf Simulator and more.
Additional offerings of the waterpark include a kids’ island for younger guests, 30 private VIP cabanas, nine elevated food and beverage options; and an 8,500 sq. ft. private beachfront event space.
The Prime Minister noted that in recent months visitors have returned to The Bahamas in large numbers.
“Airports are busy. Resorts are reporting increased occupancy levels. Cruise ships have returned – and there are more to come,” said Prime Minister Minnis.
Baha Mar is helping to lead the country’s recovery, said the Prime Minister.
The resort’s outlook for the months ahead are very promising and the pace of bookings exceed those of 2019, which was a banner year with unprecedented numbers, said Prime Minister Minnis.
Also taking part in Thursday’s ceremony were, Minister of Tourism Hon. Dionisio D’Aguilar and president of Baha Mar, Mr. Graeme Davis.
Though The Bahamas is coming back strong, we have a long way to go, said the Prime Minister.
“We have to get more Bahamians back to work as quickly as possible,” he said.
“We have to create more opportunities for Bahamians for the ownership of our economy. We can only do this together.”
