NASSAU, The Bahamas – The second phase of construction of the Ragged Island Multi-purpose Center has begun.
The Hon. Desmond Bannister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Works shared details of the center in his contribution to the House of Assembly June 16.
“This is the Prime Minister’s dream…the most resilient building in the country that should resist winds in excess of 180 miles per hour,” said Minister Bannister.
He said the building will be an example of what modern schools in the Family Islands will look like, and is a tribute to the commitment to providing equality of education for children everywhere.
The building comprises modern classrooms; residences for teachers; sporting facilities; and a hurricane shelter. The first phase of the Multipurpose Center involved the mobilization, demolition and setting out of the project.
