SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 7:30 AM EST WEDNESDAY 18TH NOVEMBER, 2020.
A COLD FRONT STRETCHING ACROSS THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS AND DRIFTING TOWARD THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A POWERFUL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT WILL PRODUCE TREACHEROUS BOATING AND HAZARDOUS BEACHING CONDITIONS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK.
THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL PRODUCE A TIGHT PRESSURE GRADIENT OVER THE AREA CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS UP TO GALE FORCE AT TIMES AND HIGH SEAS UP TO 12 FEET.
SMALL CRAFT OPERATORS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO REMAIN IN PORT AND BEACHGOERS SHOULD REFRAIN FROM ENTERING THE WATER FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK.
MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS TRAVERSING NORTHERN AND EASTERN COASTAL ROADS SHOULD DO SO WITH DUE CARE, AS SEA SPRAY AND BATTERING WAVES CAN REDUCE VISIBILITY AND CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN CROSSING THE GLASS WINDOW BRIDGE IN ELEUTHERA AND THE FISHING HOLE ROAD IN GRAND BAHAMA AS THESE AREAS ARE PRONE TO LIFE THREATENING OVERLAPPING WAVES.
THE DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY WILL BE ISSUING FURTHER UPDATES ON THIS SYSTEM.
