Freeport, Bahamas - In addition to independent
and studio films made around the world, movies produced in the Islands
of the Bahamas by Bahamian filmmakers will be featured prominently at
the upcoming
Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) on Location in
Grand Bahama,
October 27 – 30, 2011.
Five distinguished persons have been
appointed to review and select submissions in the short, medium and
feature-length categories.
The blue ribbon selection panel will be comprised of award-winning international
cinematographer, Paul Mockler; attorney Willie A. M. Moss; chartered
accountant Peter Turnquest; philanthropist, Laurie Tuchel; and stage
actor, Rouen Robinson.
Paul Mockler won the prestigious Gemini
Award in 1987 for “Best Cinematography in a Television Series or Performing
Arts Program,” presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
He also received a Cable Ace Award nomination for the Nature Connection
series and a nomination for Best Cinematography awarded by the British
Association of Film & Television for cinematography on the 1994
BBC production
Into the Wild.

A published poet, Rouen Robinson is a cinematic critic
Bahama Islands Info and a member of the Freeport Players’ Guild.
He is also a laboratory technician at Intertek Caleb Brett Testing Services.

Philanthropist, Laurie Tuchel

Philanthropist Laurie Tuchel, is a founding
member of The Bahama Babies Relief Fund, The Freeport Film Society,
The Grand Bahama Performing Arts Society and the Freeport Book Club.
She also served on the Grand Bahama Special Olympics Committee and is
presently co-chair and co-founder of the Grand Bahama Heritage Foundation.
The inaugural staging of ‘FLIFF on-Location:
Grand Bahama Island’, at the brand new, state of the art Canal House
at Pelican Bay Hotel will feature:

workshop by Bahamian filmmaker, Kareem Mortimer

(featuring young filmmakers between
the ages of 14 & 18) Winner’s Screening.
Visitors and residents alike will be encouraged to come out and enjoy
the films and events on offer during the four-day festival. More information
