1 dead, 5 injured in Grand Bahama traffic fatality

Freeport, Bahamas - Police are investigating a traffic accident that has left a male dead and five others hospitalized.

The accident reportedly occurred shortly after 1:00am on Saturday 17th May 2014 on Queens Highway in the vicinity of the old Freetown Farm. The accident involved two vehicles, a Chevy Cavalier that was travelling west along Grand Bahama Highway with four males and one female occupants and a white Chevy Cobalt which was travelling in an easterly direction with one male occupant. Upon impact the Chevy cobalt was fully engulf in flames. Police, Officers of the Fire Branch and EMS Personnel were called to the scene. Human remains were discovered inside the cobalt after the fire was extinguished. Both vehicles received extensive damages. All five of the passengers in the Chevy Cavalier were taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital via E.M.S personnel and their conditions are listed as stable.  

Investigations into this matter are continuing.  

Police are advising members of the public to slow down, drive within the required speed limit and to buckle up. The life you save may be your very own.
