Freeport, Bahamas - The Finnish-Canadian fashion mogul and Bahamian resident, Peter Nygard arrived in Grand Bahama today to join stem cell experts from around the planet at t
he International Stem Cell Society (STEMSO)
Global Conference underway at the Grand Lucayan Resort in
Grand Bahama from February 19-22, 2014. The conference, titled "Bridging the
Gap: Research to Point of Care,” brings together medical scientists,
clinicians, regulatory experts, and investors to discuss topics ranging
from progress in the field of research, clinical protocols, and the
process of responsibly bringing to market promising therapies to fight
chronic disease.
Nygard is known for his keen interest in anti-aging and stem cell therapy, and it's been said he has put millions toward research and making connections with leaders in the industry throughout the world, in particular in Korea, Panama and China.
In November 2013, Bahamas Attorney General stated, "There
has been some suggestion that Peter Nygard, a resident of The Bahamas,
was involved in the drafting of the legislation. This is not true.
While Mr. Nygard’s commitment to stem cell therapies is well known, and
his support for the new legislation is welcome, he did not participate
in the drafting of the legislation. He did not meet with me and the
members of the legislative drafting team responsible for the stem cell
legislation have advised me that none of them met with or consulted him."
Peter Nygard shared information on stem cell research and his ideas in a video called: Bahamas Stem Cell Laws: The Peter Nygard Breakthrough
Nygard states in his video, "I may be the only person in the world who has my own embryonic cells growing in a petri dish."
In July 2013 Peter Nygard visited Grand Bahama. The purpose of the visit was to look for land for a research facility said The Freeport News. Yet since that time Nygard said in a Bahamas National article
“I would love to do it in The Bahamas; (opportunities) just aren’t there right now.”
“I couldn’t make a greater contribution to The Bahamas than to help
create a new health attitude there, and make Bahamians the healthiest
people in the world,” Nygard said in the Bahamas National feature.
Just who is Peter Nygard? The Bahamas Weekly visited Nygard's home in Lyford Cay in 2008 and had an in depth interview with him after a tour of his world renown home.
