Grand Bahama Island - Der Seewolf (The Sea Wolf), a German movie production now shooting on Grand Bahama Island has given back to the community by assisting with the food program at Lewis Yard Primary School. On Tuesday, May 20th Sarah Hamilton, local production manager, and the film's catering chef, Derek Grabski were on hand to serve hamburgers and stuffed pork loin to hungry students that don't always have the means to eat lunch on a daily basis.
Hamilton heard about the food program through Larry DeGregory, the father behind the Cookies for Kids program which began in February of this year and that has been working tirelessly to continue their efforts in supporting the needs of students at Lewis Yard Primary.
"We have excellent catering on set, and we figured we might as well make a donation of the food we were having on set, to give a little back to the community for the excellent time we've had filming here in Grand Bahama. In particular for the kids, to see their little faces light up is fantastic," Hamilton was quoted in saying.
Chef Grabski commented on the food served to the approximate one hundred cast and crew saying, "They eat very well. They eat a variety of fresh seafood and salads on a daily basis and we ensure that we now prepare extra to so we have enough left over to share with the children at the schools."
The film production plans to support the school food program until they wrap filming at the end of the first week of June.
Principal Rodney Smith, was on-hand to personally thank the crew, explaining that the breakfast and lunch programme is part of an initiative by the school to cater to the students' holistic needs.
He added that the program relies heavily on the assistance of concerned organizations and individuals such as the Cookies for Kids programme.
"We are appreciative of Mr. deGregory and the filmmakers of The Sea Wolf who out of the kindness of their heart have agreed to share their lunches with the children at the Lewis Yard Primary School. This is a wonderful gesture by these people," he said.
The DeGregory Family wish to express that there is a continued need for help and support.
The DeGregory's have a list of school needs that anyone can inquire about; including food, disposable plates and cutlery, or supporting some 30 families with food and basic necessities in their homes.
Any concerned citizen or corporate citizen wishing to become involved are encouraged to phone Larry DeGregory at 242-727-0011 or 373-9717 or email them at
