Associate Press - NASSAU, Bahamas — The Bahamas lawmaker who prompted a mistrial in
the John Travolta extortion case has publicly apologized to the judge
and the people of the island chain.
Picewell Forbes says his
announcement of an acquittal while the jury was still deliberating last
week were "reckless" and "not true."
But he isn't saying where he heard the report that he repeated in a televised speech at a political convention.
Forbes'
attorney Anthony McKinney said Tuesday his client cannot comment
further because the matter is still before the court. The judge who
declared a mistrial has said she is considering a contempt of court
charge against Forbes.
Forbes has a court hearing scheduled on Thursday.
