Bahamian writer debuts latest piece showcasing Bahamian families.
Jeannie Thompson began writing plays when she was 8 years old. In the days when Sir Clement Maynard was at the helm of the Ministry of Tourism and there was an urgent need to reform our people’s attitudes toward visitors, Minister Clement Maynard called on the sharp intellect and creativity of Jeannie Thompson, and she delivered two memorable radio soap operas, “The Fergusons of Farm Road” and “Sam Finley’s Sandcastle” which, were hugely effective in helping to shape what is now today the legendary warm Bahamian hospitality. Other works of Ms. Thompson followed, enriching the repertoire of the Dundas Theatre.
On Tuesday, November 11th Ms. Thompson launched another one of her amazing books titled “Bahamian Tapestry”. The book consisted of three plays Vicious Circle, Columbus Landing and Father’s Day. Thompson said that the book was a true representation of Bahamian Culture.

“All of the plays represented a little piece of Bahamian culture. It was a pleasure write about the different pillars of Bahamian culture and to share my views with everyone. I’m excited to see how this book is received by Bahamians and visitors alike.”
Minister of Tourism Mr. Dionisio D’ Aguilar said he believed this is Ms. Thompson’s mission in life.
“I believe that some people are born with a mission. Ms. Jeannie Thompson whose achievement we have come to celebrate this evening was born with the mission of being the birther and carrier of story for the Bahamian people.”
Minister D’ Aguilar concluded with gratitude “This evening is an occasion for us to formally thank you. We thank you for being one of the luminaries of our country who has enrichened the literary arena of Bahamian culture.
Ms. Thompson’s launch was an evening that truly showcased Bahamian culture.
