50th OAS General Assembly concludes

With the approval of the documents submitted to a vote by member states, the 50th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) concluded today, after two days of sessions held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the last plenary session, the Assembly approved resolutions on Nicaragua and Venezuela, among other documents. All documents approved by the General Assembly are or will be available here.

In a vote held in person at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC within the framework of the same Assembly, member states elected Benjamin Berger (Canada), María del Carmen Maldonado (Ecuador), and María Victoria Rivas (Paraguay), as members of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas.

Likewise, by acclamation, Ramiro Gastón Orías Arredondo (Bolivia), Cecilia Fresnedo de Aguirre (Uruguay) and Stephen G. Larson (USA) were elected to the Inter-American Juridical Committee; and Joan Carroll Lugo (USA) to the Board of External Auditors of the OAS.

Michel Bastarache (Canada) was elected by acclamation to the Administrative Tribunal.

The OAS member states also approved the offer of Guatemala to host the 51st General Assembly of the Organization in 2021.
