Dressing for the Day of Love

St. Valentine’s Day is upon
us. For a single sister not planning to even think about dressing up
for Valentines day, karma dealt me a hand of jokers with more ladies
than I can count requesting personal shopping for dia del amor. The
questions came rolling in – do I wear red or white, sexy or classy,
cleavage or legs, or both?
For all those still at a loss
for what special little number to pull out for the day, here’s a little
guidance based on the type of night you are your beau are planning.
The Casual Date
Leave the skinny jeans,
spaghetti strap tank and flip flops at home. Even if you and your beau
are keeping it low key a-la a movie or drinks at a casual bar, show him
a little love by putting a little extra thought into your look.
If you’re a jeans and t-shirt
girl, trade the tank top for a simple white v-neck and bold jewelry.
The v-neck accentuates the collar bone, one of the sexiest yet
underrated parts of a woman’s body. To add fuel to the fire, a great
v-neck creates subtle yet uber flattering décolletage and ain’t nuthin
wrong with that! Upgrade the flip flops with embellished flat sandals
that show off a killer pedicure. Simple, chic and oh so comfortable
it’s an easy way to add a little oomph to an everyday casual look and
make sure he nearly brakes his neck trying to get a second look at you
as you walk out the door.
Breakfast in Bed
I recently made a stop into
one of my favorite second hand stores in Nassau, Odessa Gardens and
fell in love with the delicate vintage lace chemises and robes for the
taking. Overtly sexy lingerie is so run of the mill. Pajama pants and
oversized T-shirts a definite no-no. You can’t serve cheesecake stuffed
strawberries in an oversized t-shirt and socks!
How sexy to wake up your love
dressed as a goddess from the 30’s or a pinup from the 50’s! Whether
you’re a size zero or twenty, the female body is a treasure that should
be adorned accordingly so indulge in a sinfully sweet vintage look for
your valentine. So adorable they’ll even make a single gal feel sexy on
V day.
The Club Date
For the fashion forward
felines looking to shake a leg Bahamian style with their favorite dance
partner, fashion and comfort are key. You don’t want to ‘tay lay lay’
in a mini you’ll be tugging all night, so opt for a sexy jumpsuit. I
know, I was a little hesitant to jump on board last year when this
trend seemed to be everywhere but I’m a little more open minded this
time around. Forgo the skintight cat suit versions that scream tacky
for a silk number.
Jumpsuits can be terribly
unflattering when the wrong cut is chosen. Choose a jumpsuit with a
fitted, tailored bodice. A strapless sweetheart neckline is classic and
sexy. Look for a tie waist or belt your jumpsuit to highlight your
waistline create a flattering feminine silhouette.
The Dinner Date
I’m a creature if habit. Nine
times out of ten a simple, perfectly fitting dress will get my vote. If
this is your M.O. as well, switch it up by creating a stellar cocktail
look with separates. A great blouse and fabulous skirt.
Unless you’re 15, leave the
frothy, bubble hems and tulle miniskirts in the stores where they
belong. A fitted pencil skirt, gorgeous silk, satin or brocade blouse
and sky high stilettos make for a sexy look without being over the top.
If you don’t already own a pencil skirt this is definitely a perfect
excuse to get one. It’s a fashion staple, originally designed by the
iconic Christian Dior in the 1940’s. Your perfect pencil skirt should
be form fitting but not look like you painted it on. You’ll want it
sans any trimmings, no belt loops, pockets, or frills of any kind. Your
skirt should typically fall just below your knee – the silhouette is so
feminine there’s no need to show a ton of leg. But for this occasion
feel free to shave off a few inches from that hem and opt for a sassy
mini pencil skirt.

Put a little love in your
heart this St. Valentines Day. Sure it’s quite overrated and commercial
but who doesn’t love a good excuse to get all dolled up and play the
role of the princess every now and then?
