Respects paid to FNM founder, the late Warren J. Levarity - Nov 19, 2014 - 6:15:26 PM
NASSAU, The Bahamas – Member of the
original Majority Rule cabinet and a founder of the Free National Movement, the
late Warren J. Levarity lay in state, Wednesday, November 19, at the House of
Assembly. Prime Minister the Rt. Hon.
Perry G. Christie paid his respects and greeted the family in the Majority Room
of the House of Assembly.
The Prime
Minister signed the Book of Condolence, and had encouraging words for Mrs.
Levarity and the children. The state funeral
takes place Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral...

The Bahamas has lost yet another great son of the soil. Mr.
Warren J. Levarity, a former member of both chambers of the House has passed at
the age of 82. Even though he was blessed with a long and productive life and
fought the good fight, the PLP family still mourns his passing.
Warren James Levarity was born in West End, Grand Bahama on 25
June, 1932 to Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Levarity. After moving to New
Providence at a young age, he attended the Government High School. He would
later matriculate the Shaw Business School in Toronto, Canada where he would
become a trained Accountant.

Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas
issued the following statement on the passing of former parliamentarian
and Cabinet minister in the first Majority Rule Cabinet formed in
January in 1967.
I am saddened to learn that former Cabinet
minister and Grand Bahama MP, Warren J. Levarity, passed away on Sunday
after a lengthy illness. He was 82.
Mr. Levarity was a member of
the first PLP cabinet that followed the attainment of Majority Rule in
1967. He served as Minister of Out Island Affairs in that historic
cabinet...

man, Mr. Levarity was from an early age in the forefront of the struggle
for Majority Rule, particularly in his home Island of Grand Bahama,
where he was elected in the pivotal elections of 1967, which ushered in

my deepest sympathy to the Bahamas Faith Ministries family on the tragic
loss of my friend Pastor Myles Munroe and his wife Ruth, Dr. Richard
Pinder, his long time colleague, Co-founder of BFM and Assistant Senior
Pastor, Youth Pastor Lavard Parks, Captain Stanley Thurston and other
colleagues accompanying him.
Tonight my heart is heavy and like
millions around the world we are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of
one of the worlds most noted spiritual leaders and teachers. This
tragedy is both difficult to comprehend and accept but we know that
Pastor Myles and his colleagues and family all enjoyed a deep and
personal relationship with God and as such are resting in his arms.

Bahamas Hip Hop and Film Industry Mourn the Loss of Manifest and Family - Nov 10, 2014 - 11:33:58 AM
Lavard Parks, known in
the hip hop world as Manifest, his wife Radel and their young son
Johannan were among those killed in the November 9, 2014 plane crash in
The Bahamas with internationally known author and evangelist, Dr. Myles
Munroe. Manifest and his wife were recently ordained Youth Pastors at
Bahamas Faith Ministries International. The couple had also recently
announced they were expecting their second child, due in April 2015. The
death of the couple has left the local entertainment community in
mourning.
Radel, a graduate of the New York Film Academy was in
Atlanta last year furthering her career in film at Savannah College of
Art and Design. While in Atlanta, she had the opportunity to meet with

Service for the late Latore Mackey was held on Saturday at Voice of Deliverance
Disciple Center Temple, officiated by Apostle Leon Wallace. Mr. Mackey, 37, former Deputy Director of
Bahamas Information Services assigned to the Office of the Prime Minister, was
killed tragically on August 25.

Education ministry statement on the death of Ms. Jewel Dean - Sep 4, 2014 - 1:04:17 PM
On behalf of the management and staff of the
Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, I wish to convey deepest
sympathy to the family of the late Jewel Dean, Senior Education
Officer-Performing Arts in the Department of Education.
The
Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and indeed The
Commonwealth of The Bahamas has lost a precious jewel in its crown. Ms.
Dean gave stellar and committed service to our nation during her
forty-two year career in education. She has impacted many of our
citizens throughout her life and there is a great sadness on her
passing.
Jewel Dean entered the
public service in 1972 as a Teacher and was posted at Stephen Dillet
Primary School. While teaching, she pursued teaching qualifications and
graduated from the Bahamas Teachers College with a Teachers Certificate
endorsed by University of the West Indies.

his passing. Sam, as he was
affectionately known, was one of the finest all around sportsmen that this
country has produced. Sam was also
extensively involved in sports administration.
In his early years Sam was one of the country’s leading
soccer players, a sport that he devoted a good portion of his life to. He was also very instrumental in the
formation and administration of the Bankers Softball League in which he also
engaged as a player in that league.

greats. Sam Haven, a Past President of The Bahamas Football Association
passed away this morning in Florida.
Sam was a
talented and skilled soccer player with the United Football Club,
formerly Nick's Body Shop, where he played with such notables as Brian
Serville, Peter
Daniels, Andy
Guilluime, Steven Bellot and Lionel Haven. He later became coach and
president of the club guiding the club to numerous National
Championships. He served as president of the Bahamas Football
Association and was responsible for the formation of the New Providence
Football league and the introduction of women's football into the
league.

morning, I immediately released a statement expressing sadness over the
loss of a man who had not only etched his name in glory as a frontline
soldier of the Peaceful Revolution but who had also been revered for
decades as an authentic cultural icon of the modern Bahamas.
In that statement I expressed to Ed’s widow, Sylvia, and to his
children and wider family my personal condolences and the sympathies of

the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs has
been named after former Attorney General, the late Paul L. Adderley. The
new building has been named ‘The Paul L. Adderley Building.”

It is with deep sadness that The Government
of The Bahamas learned of the passing of Commodore William Swinley on
June 24th in Guernsey.
In October 1976, then Commander Swinley
formed The Royal Bahamas Defence Force where he became the first
Commodore and served from 1976 to 1981. Former Prime Minister, Sir
Lynden Pindling mandated Commodore Swinley to design The Royal Bahamas
Defence Force to be patterned after The Royal Navy. As a former British
Naval officer, Swinley as Commodore used his skills to implement systems
and structures used in The Royal Navy for the Royal Bahamas Defence
