Tribute to Sir Albert Miller by Obediah Wilchcombe - Aug 27, 2015 - 4:29:41 PM
![](http://www.thebahamasweekly.com/uploads/16/Hon.ObediahH.Wilchcombe.jpg) One day, the life and times of Sir Albert will be the study of
historians. He sought no fanfare and wanted no praise. He was an officer
and a gentleman “called” to serve and in the end left an unmatched
legacy of social and economic change in the city of Freeport. Fact is,
the sixty year history of Freeport would have been entirely different
had Albert Miller not stepped onto the stage and entered the Leadership
of the Grand Bahama Port Authority.
Sir Albert became the
pivotal player in changing the tone and bringing the proverbial “soul”
into Freeport. His emergence must never be misunderstood or
miscalculated...

Prime Minister Christie mourns the passing of Sir Albert Miller - Aug 19, 2015 - 1:40:50 PM
![](http://www.thebahamasweekly.com/uploads/14/Pm-Christie_1.jpg) It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Sir Albert
Miller this afternoon. He was an extraordinary Bahamian whose life
bore the marks of high distinction, first as a law enforcement officer
of legendary courage, intelligence and integrity and then, in the second
part of his life, as an iconic indigenous leader of the growth and
development of the City of Freeport.
Sir Albert, a native of
Long Island, joined the ranks of the Royal Bahamas Police Force in his
teens, and in the ensuing decades earned the respect and admiration of
his fellow officers and the general public alike for his fearlessness
and intelligence in fighting crime. He was a tough cop from the old
school, a policeman of outstanding ability and incorruptibility; a
policeman who, at the same time, carried himself with utmost dignity and
decorum. Indeed he was a born leader whose personal example inspired
successive generations...

With his passing I have lost one of my dearest friends,
confidantes, mentors and supporters in Sir Albert Miller.
In
the Freeport of old, that progressive and bustling

the troika

significant era in the life of this country and especially the city of
Freeport.

Bahamas Attorney General on the passing of Senator Mizpah Tertullien - May 25, 2015 - 5:58:58 PM
Last week marked the passing of Senator Mizpah
Tertullien, a great Bahamian woman - a visionary and trailblazer.
Senator Tertullien was infected and affected by the
1950s movement for Self Governance and Majority Rule, which eventually led to
Independence. She was a well educated
woman who chose to dedicate herself to public service and the transformation of
The Bahamas. Her weekly newspaper columns “Psychologically Speaking” incited
Bahamians to self-respect and self-love.
It’s is amazing to me that in 2015 we are still wringing our hands about
something that she and so many others more than 50 years ago saw as obvious –
women and men are equal. In advancing the cause of equality, and demonstrating
her usual courage of conviction, she ran as a female candidate.
