VANCOUVER, Canada - 25 year old Bahamian Lindsay Braynen, is now actively modeling and dancing in Canada after she moved to Vancouver, B.C. nearly 5 years ago to attend the Emily Carr University of Art + Design to study illustration.

Braynen who was born in Nassau, lived on Paradise Island, and is a Queen's College Comet of 2006. She goes by "Androsia Wilde" in the Vancouver modeling and dance industry and says she chose the name to reflect her ties to home. The Ray Vincente line made its first appearance in The Bahamas when designer Raymond Brown partnered with the mens' modeling competition, Manhunt Bahamas in its inaugural year in Grand Bahama Island, and in November the designer made his return, but this time to Nassau to debut at Islands of the World Fashion Showcase.

The collection, entitled Ray Vincente Unleashed!  focuses on removing boundaries of traditional menswear to explore the freedom of dressing without boundaries. The color schemes feature the Ray Vincente basics of black and white complimented with Caribbean influenced colors of blue and green representative of the greenery and the water found throughout the island. Fabrics were heavy on cotton and denim. Key features were blazers with contrast sheer sleeves, fitted jumpsuits, and hooded trench coats...

Nassau, Bahamas - A highlight of the Islands of the World Fashion Showcase  which took place in Nassau last weekend was Cuba’s “Art and Fashion Project” (Arte y Moda) which showed at Fort Charlotte.

Direct from Havana and seen for only the 2nd time outside of Cuba, Islands of the World Fashion Showcase presents “Arte y Moda” (“Art and Fashion Project”) delivered a colourful feast of art, fashion, dance and music fused together in an awe-inspiring spectacle. From Bahamas it was back to Cuba for a showing at their National Museum of Fine Arts from November 13th to 16th with much of the collection made from recycled materials including metal.

BARCELONA, Spain - After weeks of preparation and organizing the first Dy Muñeca the Caribbean Fashion Spot event was held on October 12th in Europe, in Barcelona at Shoko.  Led by Surinamese born Dymuñeca the show featured designs by Beatriz Rodriguez from Puerto Rico, Sonia Noel from Guyana, Daphnee Floreal from Haiti, and as special guest designer Eline Botman from Europe.  

Considered a great success, and at full capacity with more than 170 people at the event, more people waited outside eager to enter and enjoy the Caribbean fashion show...

Bahamian model, Kendrick Kemp walks in World Mastercard Fashion Week Toronto - Oct 24, 2014 - 1:17:16 PM

TORONTO, Canada - Bahamian model and entrepreneur, Kendrick Kemp just put in another walk down the international runway, and this time he was in Ontario for the World Mastercard Fashion Week Toronto.

Kemp walked for Canadian designer, Christopher Bates who has become well-known for his white collars with a lipstick kiss, and James Bond inspired attire.  Bates, who lives between Milan and Toronto creates custom suits, tuxedos, coats and dress shirts for men and his label is carried by Holt Renfrew and other boutiques in Canada.

Kendrick Kemp is the founder of Fashion For A Cause (FFAC), an annual event in his home city of Nassau, Bahamas. The next Fashion For A Cause will take place on March 29th, 2015...

Nassau, Bahamas - After two successful runs in Freeport, Grand Bahama, the third annual Manhunt Bahamas took place on Sunday, October 12th at SuperClub Breezes in Nassau under the theme "Clash of the Titans."   The night opened with a musical pre-show by young Bahamian talents, Tebby Burrows and Shaquille Farrington, before contestants were featured in casual wear, swim suit and formal wear.

She's come a long way in a very short time!  Shavon Nottage of Grand Bahama Island is basking in the afterglow of her international runway debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week S/S15 in New York. MBFW's exclusive and invitation only events take place twice annually in New York, Berlin and Istanbul and once a year in Australia and Miami, and features style, beauty, supermodels and celebrities.

CHICAGO, Illinois - Just a year after his runway debut, Caribbean-based model Kenneth Kerr has signed with Blake Martin’s Distinct Model Management. Kerr, who is a native of Freeport, Bahamas was recruited during the first round of presentations, an honor for a model, comparable with being selected in the first draft of a professional sports team.

“Kenneth is very much in demand even after I explain that he is unavailable or already booked,” says former model, mentor and manager Blake Martin. “Him being based in The Bahamas is not an issue for some of the designers who saw him at Chicago Men’s Fashion week. He is truly a Chicago favorite. I get calls often. Many designers want to work with him.”

Vancouver, CANADA  -  Making his North American debut, Finnish designer, Antti Asplund put on a colourful close to Vancouver Fashion Week's Spring Summer 2015 showcase.  The Hetereophobia show was bright and colourful and at most times quite outrageous with an array of accessories like household nylon dusters, army gas masks, grenades, painted bags, shoes and fabrics. The show was set against a video backdrop that featured Asplund and his muse Hiu Lume, which was directed and filmed by a Finnish artist Andre Pozusis, and edited by Katariina Nordfors.

“The video is based on my text about equality and it keeps evolving for every show,” Asplund told me. “In Berlin it included a part in German, in Finland it had some lines in Finnish and for Vancouver I wrote French text.

Corporate Bahamas showed an overwhelming support of the charity event as all proceeds benefit the Bahamas AIDS Foundation’s work with adolescents infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Fourteen local fashion designers created red gowns exclusively for the event and they were modeled by fourteen outstanding Bahamian ‘Leading Ladies’ in a fabulous runway show. CANADA - Vancouver Fashion Week kicked off with a sparkling Opening Gala on Monday, September 15th at the Queen Elizabeth Plaza. The Gala, hosted by Vancouver’s own Mary Zilba was co presented with Anthony Lewis. Additional guest speakers will include Vancouver’s public speaker, traveler and activist, Patti De Sante.
