The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Community of
Democracies (CoD) signed today a Memorandum of Understanding that
establishes a concrete framework of collaboration for carrying out joint
initiatives for the promotion and strengthening of democracy. The
agreement seeks to contribute to the discussion on the role of global
and regional organizations in advancing democratic sustainability, as
well as the key elements that are recognized as instrumental for
building inclusive and sustainable democracies.

The new Permanent Representative of Brazil to the Organization of
American States (OAS), Fernando Simas Magalhães, officially presented
today the credentials that accredit him as Ambassador to the hemispheric
institution.

approved the creation of a Working Group on Nicaragua "whose mandate
will be to contribute to the search for peaceful and sustainable
solutions to the evolving situation in Nicaragua, including through
consultations with the Government of Nicaragua."
The Working
Group for Nicaragua, created through a resolution, ”will be composed of a
representative of each regional group and other Member States” who will
be “designated by the Chair of the Permanent Council in consultation
with the coordinators of regional groups, no later than August 10"...

violence in Nicaragua, called on all parts to participate “actively and
in good faith” in the National Dialogue and urged the Government “to
support an electoral calendar,” in a resolution approved by the
Permanent Council with 21 votes in favor.
The resolution
specifically condemns “the attacks on clergy, the harassment of Roman
Catholic bishops engaged in the National Dialogue process, the acts of
violence at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN), the
headquarters of CARITAS, and other peaceful protesters.”

Development Foundation (PADF) today agreed to support the governments of
countries receiving Venezuelan migrants. The main objective of the
agreement is to implement actions in areas related to the protection and

observation missions in five countries of the Americas in 2017, with 373
international experts and observers present at more than 2,000 polling
stations, according to the Annual Report of the OAS Department of
Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) presented this week. The
