Costa Rica signed, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Convention against All Forms of Discrimination and Intolerance. The Central American country joins Argentina, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay, as the fifth nation in the Americas to have signed all conventions related to human rights

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Latin American Federation of Banks (FELABAN) today signed a cooperation agreement for capacity development on cybersecurity in Latin America, at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington DC.

General Secretary of FELABAN Giorgio Trettenero said the agreement "will allow us to unite efforts in a topic of high impact and importance for the banking of the region such as cybersecurity". He also recalled that during a recent strategic planning meeting of FELABAN "Cybersecurity was the issue of highest priority and importance of the management agenda of the institution."

The new Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the Organization of American States (OAS), Gustavo Tarre, today presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the hemispheric institution, Luis Almagro.

Secretary General Almagro welcomed Ambassador Tarre, "with whom we will work to deepen the path to democratization, peace and justice for Venezuela." Last Friday, March 15th 2019, the Inter-American Model Law on the Prevention, Punishment and Eradication of the Gender-Related Killing of Women and Girls (Femicide/Feminicide) was officially launched, a document that seeks to create or update legislation in the region, as well as strengthen comprehensive action on prevention, protection, care, investigation, prosecution, punishment and reparation to guarantee the right of all women and girls to a life free of violence, as established in the Belém do Pará Convention, an international instrument signed and ratified by 32 States of the region.

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the National Civil Registry of Colombia today signed an agreement that seeks to strengthen electoral processes in the country.

The OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, recalled that the OAS trained electoral officials of the Registry two months ago in the tasks necessary to implement the electoral quality system. "We know that the organization of transparent and rigorous electoral processes is the main engine that drives the work of the Registrar, so from the General Secretariat we are committed to accompany them in this stage of implementation of a quality management system providing specialized advice and training," said Secretary General Almagro.
