Strachan’s new play “Honourable Member” takes on politics -

Writer and director Ian Strachan is bringing a new play, “Honourable
Member,” to the stage from June 8th through the 11th at the Dundas
Centre’s Winston V. Saunders Theatre. Strachan’s Ceiba Arts theatre
company made waves last year with “Gun Boys Rhapsody,” a moving drama
about crime and violence. This time he sets his sights on Caribbean
politics. It’s his fourth play set in the fictional nation of “I-Land.”
The
play is a portrait of a Caribbean Prime Minister, Winston “Fergie”
Ferguson, played by Dion Johnson. Fergie is a master communicator and a
wily veteran when it comes to out maneuvering his rivals. “I was blown
away by Dion Johnson’s performance in ‘Sizwe Bansi is Dead’,” says
Strachan. “The role of Winston Ferguson is extremely demanding...

Scholar Books Signs Multi-Billion Dollar Partnership -

A Bahamian book publisher continues to expand their power and synergies
with international publishing giants. In May 2017, Scholar Books
organized a multi-billion-dollar partnership with America’s largest book
distributor, Ingram Content Group.
The new expansion follows a year after Scholar Books CEO, Albert Cox had
established a multi-million-dollar partnership with Thomson-Shore,
allowing his company the opportunity to become the first global
traditional book publications company in The Bahamas.
The Ingram Content Group deal focuses on content development and
utilizing their fully integrated channels of print and digital, as well
as their global marketing and distribution services.

The Ladder Gallery invites you to The Bahamas: Forgotten History, a
debut exhibition by Bahamian artist Durelle Williams which opens on
Friday, May 12th 2017 from 6:00pm at The Ladder Gallery.
Williams
explores the Bahamian narrative by revisiting objects, people and
traditions that remind us of our rich Afro-Caribbean heritage. The
collection of traditional paintings and digital illustrations offer a
glimpse into the social, cultural and political moments that have helped
shape and define the Bahamian people as a nation. From the woman
laboring in the field, to the poised junkanoo dancer, to a recreation of
Sir Lynden Pindling throwing the mace on Black Tuesday Williams paints a
collection of stories on reflection.

For the third consecutive year, Nassau-based law firm Glinton Sweeting
O’Brien (GSO) has joined hands with the Transforming Spaces Annual Art
Tour to provide more than two dozen public school students with the
opportunity to experience mixed-media art whilst connecting with
participating artists.

Bahamian student artist wins prize -

On
Friday, March 17th, The Scarfone/Hartfold Gallery of the University of
Tampa opened its Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. This exhibition
featured student works selected through open call submissions. The
submissions ranged from mixed media paintings, installations and three
dimensional artworks. About forty different artworks were displayed.
This
year, the exhibition was judged by Julie Heffernan, Professor of Art at
Montclair State University in New Jersey. Honorable mention awards were
given, and awards in the categories of Best 3-Dimensional Work, Best
Portraiture, Best Installation, Best 2-Dimensional Work, etc. Bahamian
emerging artist,
Jodi Minnis, won best 2-dimensional work for her video,
Paranoia...

"33: 'til now" Opens at The Pro Gallery April 13 -

The Pro Gallery will be launching "33: 'til now", a retrospective
exhibition focusing on the life, work and thoughts of Bahamian artist,
writer and educator Keisha Oliver. The show opens to the public on
Thursday, April 13th 2017 from 6:00 – 9:00pm at the University of The
Bahamas’ Oakes Field campus, Nassau, Bahamas.
Oliver’s love for
collecting is translated through a body of work both personal and
reflective that offer an auto-biographical conversation and testimony of
her thoughts on the little things we often take for granted. Cherished
objects are re-imagined through the visual and literary art forms as she
is seen challenging the definition and boundaries of herself as an
artist.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - This years Freeport Players
Guild TWIRP Awards was a night full of laughter, celebration and
surprises. The black & white affair event started with a cocktail
hour where nominees, family and friends had the opportunity to mix and
mingle.
Hosted by Mark Gardiner the awards ceremony was equally as entertaining
as the audience eagerly awaiting the words 'and the award goes to...'
The night ended with a special dedication to Dr. Alan Bater as the bar was named in his honour, "Bater's Bar..."

National Arts Festival Dedication to Dance at the Dundas -

Dance, as a component of the E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival,
continues at the Winston V. Saunders Theatre of the Dundas Centre for
the Performing Arts. Pictures taken March 29, 2017 capture the dancers'
dedication to their craft and the joy of performance. Well-known
Bahamian dancer, Lawrence coaches the dancers in one of the photos.
The
National Arts Festival adjudicates school students in music, dance, and
drama as well as the visual arts, annually, and the winning school is
presented a trophy by the Governor General at Government House. After
New Providence performances, the festival moves to Grand Bahama and
other islands through the end of May...

The Bahamian Project will launch a major exhibition of images at the Central Bank Gallery in July, 2017.
The exhibition will showcase dozens of new portrait images of people

Dance Gets Underway at the National Arts Festival This Week -

artistry that is dance, which takes place now at the annual E. Clement
Bethel National Arts Festival. During the festival this week, school
students of New Providence will show their learned skills and compete at
the Winston V. Saunders Theatre of the Dundas Centre for the Performing
Arts. Well-known dance instructor Lawrence Carroll gives pointers at
the end to further instruct and inspire.
The festival had already

The Angelika Siska's Art Class 2017 showed their work Sunday, March 12th
in the Garden of the Groves in Grand Bahama. The art exhibition was inspired by the
work of world-famous American artist, Georgia O'Keefe who's subject
