RBDF: Another Body retrieved from Waters - Feb 6, 2019 - 7:30:09 PM

Another body was retrieved from the waters in Abaco today as joint efforts continue after a boat with Haitian nationals aboard  ran aground on Saturday past.

The body was located near Man O’ War Cay on Wednesday afternoon by local boaters who are assisting in the search and recovery efforts.

This additional discovery now brings the count to 30, the number of Haitian nationals who have perished when a 40-foot conventional sailing yacht ran aground. ..

Police and Immigration officials are continuing their investigations into this tragic loss of a number of undocumented Haitian nationals after their vessel sunk in waters off Abaco Island early Saturday morning.

Royal Bahamas Defence (RBDF) divers, along with local authorities and dive operators also continued their dive operations today in the area where the sunken vessel was spottef by a US Coast Guard aircraft six miles off the coast of Marsh Harbour on Sunday. A search is currently underway in a joint effort by local authorities after a total of 15 Haitian nationals were rescued and another 4 were found lifeless in waters near Man O War Cay at the entrance of Marsh Harbour, central Abaco earlier this morning.

After the discovery of the bodies in the water by local residents, the Police Fire and Rescue Services, along with Immigration and Royal Bahamas Defence Force  (RBDF) personnel stationed in Abaco conducted a search near Fowl Cay and Man O War Cay.  Officials were later joined in the search by an RBDF patrol vessel already in the area...

Haitian Migrants Charged before Courts - Jan 11, 2019 - 10:08:39 AM

Fifty-five (55) Haitian migrants were charged before the courts after they were apprehended in waters off of Marsh Harbour during a joint operation by the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Immigration and Defence Force Officials last Thursday.

The migrants (45 males, 10 females), all pleaded guilty to illegal landing before Magistrate Cara Turnquest on Monday. They are expected to be deported as soon as possible.

Haitian vessel apprehended in Bahamian waters - Jan 5, 2019 - 11:45:25 AM

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force air, land and sea operations in the southern New Providence and Exuma chain areas have resulted in the apprehension of a Haitian vessel shortly after 8 a.m. this morning.

The vessel is in Defence Force custody and is being escorted to Coral Harbour Base where they will be handed over to Immigration authorities for further investigation. Total migrants on board are unknown at this time...

A joint operation between the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Bahamas Immigration Department and the  Royal Bahamas Defence Force resulted in the apprehension of 54 Haitian nationals in the Abacos on Thursday afternoon.

Some 29 migrants were apprehended aboard a conventional sailing yacht near the entrance of Man O War Cay, Marsh Harbour, Abaco around 4:30 p.m. The 27 foot sailing vessel was at anchor when authorities were alerted by local residents to Haitian nationals being ferried ashore by a speed boat with an additional 25 undocumented Haitians aboard...

Approximately 40 participants from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force took part and dominated The Bahamas Law Enforcement Cooperative Credit Union Fun, Run and Walk competition this past weekend.

The 3-mile race commenced at The Bahamas Law Enforcement Credit Union, Collins Avenue and took the competitors over Paradise Island and returned to the Credit Union. Members from the Defence and Police Forces participated in this event.

RBDF says tabloid report about vessels "false and misleading" - Nov 26, 2018 - 9:55:34 PM

The recent report by a local tabloid stating that 8 of 11 Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) vessels were broken down are false and misleading. "Reporting of unverified information to the general public as fact is blatantly irresponsible," said Commodore Bethel.

The RBDF has 9 Damen-built patrol craft and 2 Bahama Class vessels that were refitted by Damen in the Netherlands. Six out of the 9 Damen-built vessels are operational; 3 are nonoperational, with 2 of them requiring short term maintenance due to normal wear and tear; and the third vessel (HMBS Dion Hanna)...
