The Committee for the 46th Annual Red Cross Ball today announced that
planning was underway for the signature formal event of the 2018
calendar. Under the patronage of Her Excellency Dame Marguerite
Pindling, GCMG, Governor-General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the
Ball will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 7pm at the Baha Mar
Convention Centre, Cable Beach.
The Ball is the Bahamas Red
Cross’ largest annual benefit and has provided considerable funding to
assist the Society in fulfilling its mandate of ‘alleviating human
suffering wherever it may be found’...

GGYA participants broaden skills on Grand Bahama expedition -

continued for nearly 100 youths. They spent a week exploring Grand
Bahama, fulfilling personal self-development goals on an amazing
adventure which could bag them an award.
"Lucayan Trails," the
code name for this year's Governor General's Youth Award (GGYA), Bahamas
Award Super Expedition (BASE) runs for 10 days from June 29 to July 8.

$200,000 to country's national park system -

Major business donors have pledged over $200,000 to support management of the country's national park system.

Cancer Awareness in The Bahamas finds support on Crowd funding -

The epidemic-like figures of breast cancer throughout The Bahamas are
staggering. In an attempt to lower these figures, a new initiative will
be launching later this Summer 2017 by C.U.R.E, on the crowd funding
website Indigogo, which seeks to help raise awareness about breast
cancer, whilst also helping to raise funds to support the great work of The Cancer Society of the Bahamas.
Launching by BEACH BY JEWEL, a luxury brand of swimwear, the crowd
funding campaign is offering a jewellery collection of fine and
exclusive bracelets and pendants made of pearls and gemstones, sterling
silver, white and rose gold. For each bracelet sold on crowd funding,
the brand commits to donate $25.00 to

humans and under serious threat from habitat loss and indiscriminate
killing.

One Eleuthera Breast Cancer Outreach Program hosts 4th Annual Pink Tea Party -

One Eleuthera Foundation’s Breast Cancer Outreach
Program (BCOP) hosted their fourth Annual “Pink Tea Party” event on
Sunday April 30th, 2017, under the theme “Saving our Sisters,
Strengthening Families”.
Women and girls from the surrounding
communities came together at the Eleuthera Arts and Cultural Center
(EACC) in Tarpum Bay to support the event and BCOP’s efforts towards
breast cancer awareness. Delicious teas and pastries were served and the
evening was filled with fun, laughter and education.
The men of
Unity Builders, a local softball team, volunteered their time and served
the ladies attending the event. Members of the Rotaract Club of
Eleuthera also volunteered at the event...

multiple dimensions of life and the reasons it is so important to

Executive Director of the Organization for Responsible Governance (ORG)
Matt Aubry joined the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) Wednesday
to discuss a range of social and political reforms he said are necessary
to change the course of governance in The Bahamas.
Addressing
GBCC members at their April business luncheon, Aubry suggested that The
Bahamas is suffering from a range of systemic challenges, which have
repeatedly stunted its progress. He added that combating these
challenges would require residents and the government to collaborate and
look beyond national development as merely existing within five-year
cycles.

Rotary Foundation centennial celebrated with Easter egg hunt -

The historic Collins House grounds were speckled with colourful eggs
Easter weekend as hundreds of children searched for prizes during six
egg hunts throughout the day. The Rotary Clubs of East Nassau, Nassau,
and New Providence, in partnership with JoyFM and 100Jamz, hosted an
Easter Egg Hunt and Fun Day on April 15 to celebrate the centennial of
The Rotary Foundation. Proceeds from the fun day will be donated to The
Rotary Foundation to do good in our community and the world.
Live radio remotes from JoyFm and 100Jamz carried the festive atmosphere
throughout the day. After an appearance from the Easter Bunny, the
entertainment peaked with a live performance by Faddah Fred, Bahamian

The Zonta Club of Nassau invited all persons to Be Bold For Change on
Wednesday, March 8th, 2017 as we celebrated International Women’s Day, a
global observance celebrating the social, economic, cultural and
political achievements of women. Each year, the Zonta Club of Nassau
holds its United Nations Essay Competition which encourages high school
students from all over the Bahamas to submit essays on a theme
surrounding International Women’s Day. Numerous submissions were
received this year and three finalists were selected.
