DQ & REACH Aim to Make Miracles Happen for Autism Community -

Nassau, Bahamas - We’re in for a steamy summer this year, but on July 28th, the forecast is calling for a blizzard.
On
Thursday, July 28th, Miracle Treat Day, Dairy Queen (DQ) will donate $2
for every blizzard sold to families affected by autism spectrum
disorder (ASD). All four DQ locations in New Providence will participate
– Southwest Plaza, Cable Beach, Harbour Bay and The Mall at Marathon.

can participate in Miracle Treat Day in three ways - purchase a special

Rotary Club of East Nassau welcomes new directors -

Nassau, The Bahamas — The Rotary Club of East Nassau (RCEN) welcomes the
new Board of Directors for the 2016-2017 year. At the western-themed
Changeover Party, the gavel was passed from Immediate Past President
Jason Robertson to Diane de Cardenas, the third female President of
RCEN. While sporting their best denim and enjoying a bbq dinner, the
crowd applauded the numerous accomplishments of the previous President
and Board of Directors. The new administration will continue the Club's
support of literacy, feeding programs, greater access to youth sports,
and health programs in addition to other areas where they can make a
positive difference in peoples lives.

International Experts Tour Clifton Bay, View Oil Pollution Up Close -

International experts, including a former presidential advisor, toured
Clifton and the Southwest Bays recently, their boat slicing through the
water between oil slicks and coasting over reefs as they witnessed the
sharp distinction between some of the world’s most beautiful waters and
the oil pollution threatening its health and the fish, conch and
crawfish that call it home.

Bahamas National Feeding Network (BNFN) Increases Focus on Eliminating Hunger in Family Islands -

Hailed for its picture-perfect pink sand beaches by the likes of Fodors,
Frommers and The Travel Channel, Harbour Island is a mecca for
snorkelers, divers and fisherman alike. Still, like many islands in The
Bahamas, this popular tourist destination is no stranger to the issue of
hunger.
That’s why The Bahamas National Feeding Network (BNFN)
Executive Director Philip Smith took advantage of a recent trip to
Harbour Island to meet with Rev. Henry Knowles, senior pastor of Wesley
Methodist Church. In the nearly three years since BNFN has distributed
food and funding to feeding centers throughout The Bahamas, the
programme has donated more than $350,000 to its partners around the

Rotary Club of Old Fort Installs New President and Directors -

Nassau, Bahamas – The Rotary Club of Old Fort
(RCOF) has installed a new administration with lawyer and banker,
Tameika Watson becoming its first female president. She will serve for
the rotary year 2016-2017.
The new administration will focus on
selfless service in its surrounding community by continuing the Club’s
work with Great Commission Ministries. In the last quarter of the Rotary
year 2015-2016, RCOF funded and installed two outdoor showering
systems. In this new Rotary year, RCOF will seek to establish new
partnerships to further its community service outreach programmes, while
continuing to collaborate with The Children’s Emergency Hostel, Gambier
Primary School, S.H.A.R.E. (at the Lyford Cay School) and The Bahamas
Red Cross...

Fifth Grader Donates to Bahamas National Trust -

Nassau, Bahamas - A fifth grade student named Jade Macvean arrived at
the Bahamas National Trust recently, with her dad Jeremy, to make a
special donation for the environment. The St Andrew/s student made her
own necklaces and sold them for a dollar at the St Andrew’s School Earth
Day event.
“With great pride she gave us $41 to help with
mangrove conservation,” said BNT Education Director Portia Sweeting. “We

Bahamians showcased in Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards global anniversary films -

Four Bahamians have been selected to help celebrate 60 years of the
Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – the world’s leading youth
achievement award attracting over 1.1 million people annually in 141
countries and territories.
The Award, known locally as the
Governor General’s Youth Award, has brought its International Award
family together to share the stories of their participants and
volunteers from around the world.
In commemoration of its diamond anniversary, the Award launched its new microsite

Aquacat Supports Bahamas National Trust Dive Tag Initiative -

For the second year in a row Aqua Cat - a Nassau-based,
live-aboard dive service - is supporting the Bahamas National Trust (BNT
)Dive Tag Initiative, which lets divers buy a souvenir tag for their
dive equipment to help fund national parks.
Aqua Cat is a 102-foot catamaran that carries up to 30 passengers on
weekly dive cruises to the Exumas. It’s one of a fleet of live-aboard
vessels owned by Bruce Purdy. The BNT dive tags are included in the Aqua
Cat cruise package.
The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is a top destination for Aqua Cat,
which supports the park with annual donations.This year the vessel’s
operator donated three video cameras with waterproof housings to the BNT
for ecological monitoring activities...

REACH Announces Penny Drive to Fund Therapy for Children with Autism -

Nassau, Bahamas - REACH, a non-profit promoting awareness of autism
and providing resources to parents and their children with autism
spectrum disorders (ASD), announces its Penny Drive to raise funds for a
therapy room and after-care program at the organization’s new location
on Village Road.
Combined with other fundraising efforts, REACH hopes to raise $50,000 to assist with both initiatives.

Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe Welcomes Rotarians -

NASSAU, The Bahamas - Minister of Tourism the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe,
pictured at the podium, welcomed a large group of Rotarians from The
Bahamas and countries around the world, at a luncheon at Atlantis
recently. Visiting The Bahamas was Rotary International President R. N.
Ravindran. There are 400 Rotary service club members in The Bahamas,
since the organization got started in Nassau as Rotary Club of Nassau in
1962.
While in Nassau, International President Ravindran, seated

Michael Barnett to the Rotary Club Of East Nassau on the Gender Equality
Bills currently before the electorate, delivered on 10th of May 2016:
Parliament has now passed with the requisite three fourths majority
four Bills which seek to amend the Constitution of The Bahamas.
Three
of the Bills seek to achieve the equal treatment of both men and women
in the acquisition of citizenship by their children and their spouses.
The fourth Bill seeks to amend Article 26 by including the word “sex” in
Article 26(3) which defines the expression “discriminatory” in the
freedom from discrimination provision contained in the Constitution...

Baark’s Carnival Night Raises $30,000 -

Nassau, Bahamas - More than 150 guests attended the second annual Carnival Night
Fundraiser for local charity Baark! (Bahamas Alliance for Animal Rights
and Kindness) held at 1er Cru on Saturday, April 30th. The fun filled
event was sponsored by Purina, Think Simple, Graham Real Estate, Happy
Pets Animal Hospital, Odyssey Aviation and JS Johnson and all the
proceeds will benefit Baark’s spay/neuter and education programs
throughout the Bahamas.
Quickly becoming known as the most
fun-fundraiser on the social calendar, attendees had the chance to play
more than 10 gala games in a bid to win amazing prizes. The slowest bike
race was one of evening’s highlights, top prizes included stays at
Kamalame Cay, Treasure Cay, Hope Town Harbour Lodge...

Nassau, Bahamas - On May 5, 2016, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Philip
Davis, Rotary International President R. N. Ravindran along with District 7020
Governor Felix Stubbs joined Rotary Road to Peace committee members and
executives of Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas for the unveiling of the Road To Peace
Monument at the entrance of the National Stadium.
