Nassau, The Bahamas - Hurricane Season begins June 1st and The Bahamas Weekly News Team is pleased to announce this year's 2009 hurricane forecast. The Team was able to stop in to the 13th annual Bahamas Weather Conference in April thanks to SkyBahamas.  This year's weather conference which is attended by officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the National Hurricane Center (NHC), members of emergency management organizations, academia and television news weathermen and women from all over the world, was  held at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort in New Providence.

In this video you will hear from  famed hurricane expert, Meteorologist, Dr. William Gray from Colorado State University who will provide this year's forecast; Max Mayfield, who moderated and planned the conference agenda and is former director of the National Hurricane Center;  and well-known TV personality Steve Lyons, Tropical Weather Expert, The Weather Channel...

The travel company spokespersons seen in this video  explain why they chose The Bahamas for their student travel destination.  After a hiatus from hurricanes of 2004, and reflecting back on a time when 2000 students was nothing compared to the numbers that used to grace the island, it is good to have the revenue back on Grand Bahama even for a short time out of the year.

Amidst a busy schedule, Bahamian snowboarder, Korath Wright, who will compete in the February 2010 Winter Olympics took some time back in his home country to meet with the media, share his story, and seek sponsorship to cover his training costs up to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver Canada.

Korath is a Bahamian first! He is the first Bahamian to compete in a Winter Olympics, and definitely all eyes will be on him when he hits the halfpipe (his event) in hopes of a Gold medal for The Bahamas.

Bahamas Builds New York Event Around Duke Ellington Day - May 20, 2009 - 5:22:55 PM

NEW YORK, NY– The Islands Of The Bahamas teamed up with the city of New York recently to pay tribute to one of the Bahamas’ famous visiting musicians.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg declared April 29 Duke Ellington Day in honor of the  110th anniversary of the jazz legend’s birth.  To commemorate his life, The Islands Of The Bahamas sponsored a special run of the last surviving 1939 New York City ‘A’ Train, made famous by Duke Ellington’s signature tune Take the A Train. The train was outfitted with the Bahamas’ logo and signage, and was dubbed “The Bahamas Express” for the day’s special events.

May 1st, 2009 Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - The Salvation Army's "Eating up a Storm" grilled chicken cookout drew droves of chicken lovers from near and far to Junkanoo Beach Club on Taino Beach to support The Salvation Army as they gear up for hurricane season 2009.

Serving hundreds of 1/2 Cajun marinated chicken dinners with corn on the cob and a dinner roll to the famished "TGIF" crowd was handled graciously with the generous of support of volunteers and Salvation Army advisory committee members.

Hands down, the highlight of the evening was Jay Mitchell live in concert. Jay Mitchell proved beyond a doubt that the magic that was Jay Mitchell still IS Jay Mitchell...

This recording unlike numerous others that Dry Bread and I recorded together over the past twenty years was not a music session, but rather it was an interview session at Mackeymedia. The interview was recorded to be streamed on my Mackeymedia.com website. Although I never uploaded Dry Bread’s interview to the Internet, I archived it for future use and I am pleased to share it with you herewith for the first time.

Through the years as Dry Bread's engineer/ co-producer and graphic design artist of many of his album covers, Cyril and I worked together on many of his hits from the days of Cay Gotlieb’s Cicada Sounds Studio (now COOL96 studios) to my Mackeymedia multimedia production studio...

Grand Bahama Island - On Monday, March 10th at the Grand Bahama Police Headquarters the Rotary Club of GB Sunrise were pleased to donated 101 bullet proof vests to local police officers. An initiative which began back in June 2008, the Rotary Club of GB Sunrise had set a goal to donate 75 vests, and were pleased to surpass that goal.

London, UK - The Wandsworth woman who shocked the world by setting three freediving world records within 48 hours after only nine months of competition has announced her quest to become the first woman to dive below 100m on just one breath.

Sara Campbell, dubbed Mighty Mouse because of her petite five foot frame, will compete in the Vertical Blue competition from April 1 on Bahamas’ Long Island.

After an incredible year in 2007, Sara claimed three World Records and became World Champion, only to experience an enforced break in training with her mother’s death last summer.

Paradise Island/Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas - The Bahamas Weekly News Team brings you a heart warming and heart tugging interview with thirteen year old Meghan Griffin, who is presently visiting in The Bahamas and is staying at Atlantis on Paradise Island with her family.  Meghan is a recipient of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes and offers hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Meghan's wish was to visit Atlantis in The Bahamas, and through our contacts we learned of Meghan and set up an audio interview via phone. You will hear first from Meghan's mother, Paula Griffin who provides information on Meghan's illness and shares the daily struggles she and the Griffin family go through in order to keep Meghan alive.

Mrs. Griffin also offers words of encouragement to other families who may also be facing terminal illness...
