Paradise Island, The Bahamas - A thrilled audience was treated to a extraordinary event on Saturday night at the Atlantis Theater where Academy Award® winner Alan Arkin ( Little Miss Sunshine) received with The Bahamas International Film Festival’s Career Achievement Award, which was presented to him by Academy Award® nominated actress (and his Little Miss Sunshine co-star) Abigail Breslin.

 

Excitement was palpable as the tribute ceremony unfolded to a capacity crowd gathered to see one of the finest actors of our time...

Paradise Island - The Bahamas International Film Festival got underway last evening, December 2nd with the hilarious British comedy, Tamara Drewe directed by Stephen Frears and written by Moira Buffini.  American television and film critic, Jeffrey Lyons.

Nassau, Bahamas  – The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) announced today that Academy Award® winner Alan Arkin ( Little Miss Sunshine, ) will be honored with the prestigious Career Achievement Award at this year’s Film Festival, taking place December 1-5 in Nassau. Arkin will be on hand for the tribute, with the special award presentation coming from actress Abigail Breslin, who received an Oscar® nomination for Best Supporting Actress starring alongside Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine.

  Nassau, Bahamas – October 26, 2010 – The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF), announced today that Sony Pictures Classics’ acclaimed comedy “Tamara Drewe” will be the opening film at this year’s festival, which takes place December 1-5 in Nassau. The special event screening will take place on Thursday, December 2nd at the Atlantis Theatre on Paradise Island. The announcement was made by BIFF Founder and Executive Director Leslie Vanderpool.

Nassau, Bahamas  - The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) announced today the members of the jury that will preside over the 7th edition of the Festival, which takes place December 1-5, 2010. The jury was revealed today by BIFF Founder and Executive Director Leslie Vanderpool.

This year, the Festival will showcase 56 films from 17 different countries, including 27 features of which several are world or international premieres and all Bahamian premieres. The four competition categories at BIFF are Spirit of Freedom; Narrative; Spirit of Freedom; Documentary; New Visions; and Short Film. – The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) will continue its efforts to educate and inspire a new generation of filmmakers. The Festival announced today that it will be expanding its popular Youth Film Workshop during the seventh annual BIFF by partnering with schools throughout Nassau and integrating the workshops directly into classrooms. The announcement was made by BIFF Founder and Executive Director, Leslie Vanderpool.

There will be one program per day at each participating school with 15 students in each program taking place November 29th through December 3rd...

The day consists of working in all the different jobs on a film set (Actor, Director, Sound, Lighting, etc), children will learn the essentials of making a film from pre-production to editing- all in one day.

Over the years you have heard, seen, experienced and been transformed by the magic of cinema, you have had the opportunity to network and meet numerous actors, filmmakers and celebrities.

BIFF was created to enhance the international film industry culture, especially with our young people in mind. It was created to support the country’s filmmakers and to present to the Bahamas films that offer views of the world, and to introduce our country to filmmakers from around the world, with the aim of having them come back and shoot their films right here.
