Nassau, Bahamas - With one year past the
devastating
earthquake in Haiti, The
Bahamas Weekly is proud to present two video segments from Islands of
the World Fashion Week (IWFW) in November 2010 featuring Haitian designers.
In this video you will see the colourful and stunning designs by Haitian
jewelry and accessories
designer, Giovanna Menard, as well as well known Haitian clothing
designer, David Andre. We provide video interviews with each designers
in a segment entitled:
"Fashion Cares for Haiti: The Relief Benefit Show"
.
Giovanna Menard's brand “Artisans du Soleil ” is a line of beautiful fashion accessories made of
luxurious high hand handcrafted items like: Hand Bags, jewelry, Caftans,
blouses, sandals etc...
With a global look in mind which is the combination of
the rich and gorgeous elements of the very creative Haitian culture and a
modern touch. Giovanna Menard in showing to the
world the wonderful cultural values of Haiti and get involved in order
to contribute to the development of her country by creating jobs and
trainings in her workshop for people with creative potentials.
You will also hear from
David Andre whose current resort and cruise wear line is light and fresh and perfect for visiting Haiti, as he says. "In the press they've been selling Haiti so bad. With fashion we can show the rest of the world our country can go beyond the current misery. We have our culture, music, food and our fashion," said Andre.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haïti, David André always has from childhood
wanted to work in fashion. After his classical studies, he decided to take
his passion in hand and began taking fashion design, classes. He studied
the history of costume, and drawing mode at the Academy Faith Verona,
working on costume for musical groups. He studied with Magalie A Racine,
model in Europe and founder of the Academy Perfection,

Participating

Islands of the World Fashion Week 2011. Here is what to expect! The runway shows, receptions, and street parties will have you hopping
all over the island, mingling with designers featuring their creations
from such islands as Barbados, Cuba, Fiji, French Guyana, Grenada,
Haiti, Indonesia, Jamaica, Madagascar, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the
Grenadines, The Bahamas, and Trinidad & Tobago.
The catwalk has also
been graced with designs by noted international designers, Kenneth
Cole, Nick Verreos (Nikolaki), Kevan Hall, Peter Ingwersen (Noir
Illuminati II), Leanne Marshall, Henry Jackson, Jay McCarroll, Indashio, Oliver Tolentino and b michael. The stage
is set for a truly international meeting of cultures in the fashion
world in this the International Year of the Rapprochement of Cultures as
designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural
Organization (UNESCO).
