BROOKLYN, New York - The United States Virgin Islands (USVI) is supporting the culture of the Caribbean this weekend by participating in the West Indian American Day Carnival Association's Labor Day celebrations on Brooklyn's Eastern Parkway.

The US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism will give away specially branded items at its booth between Bedford and Rogers avenues on Monday, September 2 as millions of revelers and spectators assemble in Brooklyn for the 46th anniversary of Carnival.

"Our support of Labor Day activities is part and parcel of our commitment to working with Caribbean communities abroad, including the thousands of Virgin Islanders who celebrate Carnival in Brooklyn each year," said Beverly Nicholson-Doty, Commissioner of Tourism of the US Virgin Islands.

The Department of Tourism will also support the annual Caribbean Cultural Fest, presented by Virgin Islanders United (VIU) in the village of Harlem on Sunday, September 1.

Virgin Islands reggae sensation "Pressure Buss Pipe" will headline this event which will be broadcast live to the US Virgin Islands on WSTA radio (1340 AM).

The show, hosted by former VIU President Kevin Hughes and well-known Caribbean radio personality Prince Kalunda, also features steel pan music, the famous mocko-jumbie review, a VI traditional clowns presentation, and a vendor's market complete with authentic Caribbean dishes, beverages and novelties.

On Eastern Parkway on Monday, the Department of Tourism's tent will be located among Virgin Islands culinary specialists who will share the tastes and flavors of the islands with attendees.
