Freeport, Grand Bahama - The Rotaract Club
of Freeport installed its new board of officers for 2013-2014 on Wednesday,
June 26th at the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce. In attendance were members
and distinguished Rotarians from the various Rotary Clubs in Grand Bahama,
along with family and friends. The new board officers received certificates and
pins, dignifying their various positions that will be carried out in the club. Representatives
from the Rotary clubs of Freeport, Lucaya and Sunset commended the club on it
past services and efforts, as well as extended words of encouragement for a
successful future.
Outgoing
president, Justin Missick, expressed his gratitude in serving as club leader
for the 2012-2013 year. He explained
that Rotaract has always been a passion for him since joining the club two
years ago. Missick described his leadership
role as sometimes tedious task; however, it was also a fun one. Despite some
challenges, he thanked special Rotarians such as, Vernessa Dean, Deshawn Smith
and Matthew Rolle who greatly assisted the club this past year. “I believe it has caused us to move forward as
a club, and to also give us the drive that we needed to come this far”. Past
President Missick then thanked his team for their support and efforts during
his time served.

Under his reign,
the Rotaract Club of Freeport has been involved with number of community
service projects around the island which included: repairs at the Columbus
House, maintenance at the Rotary water plant, a cleanup at the Holmes Rock
Primary School, the Lupus Bahamas Organization fun walk, the Rotary clubs’ food
wagon, and beach cleanups.
During her
address, Jourdan Bowe expressed gratitude in being elected as the clubs’
2013-2014 president. “I thoroughly enjoy interacting with likeminded individuals
who value the importance of service and professional growth. As a club, we are
a part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the
world”. Bowe explained that she is pleased with the clubs’ services over the
past year. “It is my hope that we recommit our time and knowledge at the
Columbus House, realizing the human impact that we are making there, and we
continue to educate the community through our health partnerships as with the
Lupus Foundation. It is my ultimate goal as your president that the service we
provide will promote better education, health, peace and understanding”.

In addition,
President Bowe challenged the members of the Rotaract of Freeport to continue
to make a positive difference in the community, remain focus of their goals, dedicated
to service and have fun doing it, never forgetting their motto of “Fellowship
through Service”.
Bowe will be
assisted in her duties by Vice-President Patrick Rolle, President-Elect Theron
Moss, Secretary Percival Albury, Treasurer Kyra Cooper, Director of Community
Service Justin Missick, Director of Fundraising Natalia Storr, Director of Club
Service Tiffany Burrows, Director of Professional Development Kesheia Morris,
Director of International Relations Quinton Russell, and Director of Public
Relations Samantha Cooper.
The Rotaract Club of Freeport is open to young
professionals between the ages of 18 to 30 years old. The club weekly meetings
are held at Geneva’s Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
