Nassau, The Bahamas – Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, Her Excellency Dai Qingli, recently paid a Courtesy Call on Minister of Social Services and Urban Development, the Hon. Frankie A. Campbell, at the Ministry’s Head Offices, located in the Aventura Plaza, John F. Kennedy Drive and Bethel Avenue.
Minister Campbell was accompanied by Ms. Phedra Rahming, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development, and Ms. Kim Sawyer,ActingDirector,DepartmentofSocialServices. AmbassadorDaiwas accompanied by Mr. Yin Haigang, Deputy Head of Mission and Counselor, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
Minister Campbell said the visit allowed the two officials to discuss matters of mutual interest; matters relative to his portfolio, the empowerment of women and girls, gender equity and equality, equity and inclusion for persons with disabilities, in addition to matters relative to the elderly.
“There is mutual interest on those subjects and there is an open door for us to work together moving forward,” Minister Campbell said.

Minister Campbell presented Ambassador Dai with a copy of the book “BAHAMA MAMA.” According to the book’s publishers, ‘Bahama Mama is a photo journal comprised of colourful portraits and quotes from The Bahamas’ matriarchs. It reflects the flamboyant colours and vivacious spirit of the women who hold the country together. It looks to capture simple portraits of the raw aesthetic of these
women through photographs that accentuate their long lives through the lines on their faces, the bright backgrounds of their environment and powerful gazes that connect with the viewer.’
The quotes focus on revealing the humour, anecdotes and timeless wisdom of this generation and their experiences about love, relationships, work and how life in The Bahamas “used to be compared to the present, as well as home grown wisdom.”
“The book is about the resilience of our Family Island women; and the parents of many notable, successful, productive citizens are in that book and so it does two things, it helps the new Ambassador to learn more about The Bahamas, following in the footsteps of her predecessor who travelled throughout The Bahamas, and it also helps her to learn about the struggles and resilience of our Family Island women,” Minister Campbell said.
