Nassau, Bahamas - Several members of the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) Senior Executive Committee were among the first to be inoculated with the AstraZeneca vaccine today. Among those vaccinated at the Princess Margaret Hospital as part of the official launch of the phase one roll-out of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign (PMH) were PHA Managing Director, Ms. Catherine Weech, Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Lyrone Burrows, Medical Chief of Staff, PMH, Dr. Caroline Burnett-Garraway, along with Chief of Service, Emergency Department, Dr. Christa Wells. Other executives who have received the vaccine include PMH Hospital Administrator, Mary Lightbourn Walker, Director National Emergency Medical Services (NEMS), Dr. Alvery Hanna, and PHA Director Quality & Patient Safety, Mrs. Aubynette Rolle.
PMH began offering the vaccine to its employees and members of the National Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) Wednesday 17th March, in a live broadcasted event . PMH is designated as one of the vaccination sites offering inoculations for health workers in New Providence.
As part of the Government’s National COVID Vaccination Initiative, healthcare workers are among the first tranche of persons being offered vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The Authority has an employee complement of over 4,000, and similar vaccination rollouts will take place at the PHA’s other institutions, namely the Rand Memorial Hospital and Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre. Other groups targeted as part of the first phase of the vaccine roll out include private sector healthcare workers participating in the vaccination rollout; residents and staff of eldercare homes, non-ambulatory residents registered in the public health system; and staff of the uniformed branches (Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Bahamas Department of Corrections, Bahamas Customs and the Department of Immigration).

Complying with COVID-19 prevention measures, those who wish to receive the vaccine are required to pre-register and receive an appointment date and time for their vaccination. All eligible vaccine candidates in this first phase will be required to present an ID code generated by the appointment system and valid government-issued identification at the vaccination site.
