Presidents of College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University pay courtesy call on Prime Minister Minnis

Nassau, Bahamas - Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis thanked the presidents and other officials of the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University for the many opportunities the schools have provided to hundreds of Bahamians, including scholarships.
Mary D. Hinton, president of the College of St. Benedict, and Eugene McAllister, president of St. John’s University in Minnesota, were among a group of CSB/SJU officials and Bahamian alumni who paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at the Cabinet Office on Thursday, 5th March.
Currently, more than 50 Bahamian students are enrolled at CSB/SJU. Over the years, more than 1,400 Bahamians have studied at the Minnesota schools.
St. John’s University senior, Bahamian Owyn Ferguson, who was part of the university delegation, was singled out as a top performing student at St. John’s. Mr. Ferguson is an economics major and is president of the Student Senate.

The St. John’s/Bahamas connection dates back to the 1980s. CSB/SJU have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bahamas Ministry of Education that enables Bahamian students to earn annual scholarships.
The College of St. Benedict is expected to soon begin a study abroad program for its students in The Bahamas focused on International Organizational Behaviour.
It was noted during the courtesy call that CSB/SJU Bahamian students organized a fundraiser and raised $46,000.00 to help with the Hurricane Dorian relief and recovery efforts.
