“The geographically dispersed island nation of The Bahamas is a key transshipment point for goods, both licit and illicit, entering the U.S. and creates challenges for Bahamians in enforcing sovereignty and responding to security threats,” said U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson. “MARLIN SHIELD aims to actively exercise ways to combat these challenges hand-in-hand.
The strong collaborative partnership with the Bahamas is critical to both North America and hemispheric security. Additionally, the partnership between The Bahamas and the U.S. is a relationship based on trust, mutual benefit and mutual respect for sovereignty. This strong partnership is significantly demonstrated by U.S. Northern Command’s, and U.S. Special Operations Command North’s commitment for the successful execution of Exercise Marlin Shield.
Commander Defence Force (Acting) Captain Tellis Bethel reiterated that “the MARLIN SHIELDthe MARLIN SHIELD training exercise complements the decentralization strategy of the Defence Force, and will ensure that the Defence Force continues to build operational capacity through reginal partner engagements.”
