Swedish Ambassador calls on Prime Minister Minnis

Nassau, Bahamas - Swedish Ambassador to The Bahamas, H.E. Elisabeth Eklund, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis on Friday 28 February at the Office of the Prime Minister.

Ambassador Eklund serves as non-resident Ambassador to The Bahamas and other countries in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Prime Minister Minnis thanked H.E. Eklund for Sweden’s support, particularly its contribution to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and combatting climate change. Sweden is one of the main donors to the GCF.

The Fund is the world’s largest dedicated fund set up to help developing countries reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and enhance their ability to respond to climate change. It was set up by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2010.

Ambassador Eklund commended the Government on its efforts and support of the islands affected by Hurricane Dorian.

The Prime Minister noted the importance of continuing to deepen ties between Sweden and The Bahamas.

H.E. Eklund was accompanied by Mr. John Wiberg, The Bahamas Honorary Consul for Sweden.
