The Water and Sewerage Hurricane preparation statement for the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season
Good afternoon to all, the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) is actively in preparation mode for the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. The COVID 19 pandemic has delayed our preparation efforts, however the Corporation shall maintain its resolve in pursuit of ensuring that we are ready to answer the call when the time comes.
Beginning on Tuesday June 2nd the Corporation has scheduled several video conference calls with Managers and team leaders throughout the Family islands, to discuss the preparations efforts. There will be a phased approach for a smooth transition.
The islands located in southeastern Bahamas shall be in phase I the second phase would be those islands located in the Central Bahamas. And third Phase will be those islands located in the Northwest Bahamas. In keeping with the requirements of the Emergency Order, the Corporation has completed a number applications for the COVID 19 travel card for a number of staff and sub- contractors to travel throughout the islands as a part of the preparations and recovery efforts.
Our Abaco operation teams are working to return our Infustrusture equal to or better than pre-Dorian. The Corporation has secured the services of several contractors to assist in the replacement of service connections in the communities of Marsh Harbour, Dundas Town, Murphy Town, Central Pines and Treasure Cay.
In effort to increase our capacity and Infrastructure resilience the corporation has embarked upon transformation the older water systems of Marsh Harbour to a state of the art solar powered system. This project was made possible by the collaboration between United Nations international Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Water Missions and WSC.
As the corporation continue in our efforts to prepare for this hurricane season we ask the general public if you are not a customer, please visit our Customer Service department to make application to have safe a water supply.
