It was so great to have the kids home for
the summer! My two youngest were with me for a month or two, and with them came all of their friends, along with the driving, the
sleepovers, the dishes, the shopping and more washing and cleaning than
should be allowed. But I love it and give it all for the children,
my daughter and son are 16 and 18 years of age. I know full well they won't be coming down from Canada as often in the future.
I live and work on Grand Bahama Island,
one of over seven hundred islands in The Bahamas. Weather is great,
beaches are perfect, the sea is gorgeous and the livin' is easy here.
Traffic is light and usually moves briskly. If I have an appointment
across town, ten minutes is the average drive time, max. So what could
cause me to flare up and anger at people here, in paradise?
Like anywhere on the face of this planet
where there are humans there will be a plethora of differences in their
size, their shape and their ability to think and reason. What
got me going this one fine summer day here in The Bahamas was when my
son Nathen brought some of his friends over to hang out and swim, and
do the “bonding for the future thing” that all teenagers have to
do with their buddies. What really shocked me was that one
of his friends, barely eighteen, came through the door to greet me and
he looked like an old man. He was rounded in the shoulders and
stooped significantly to one side. My God I thought, what has happened
to this nice young man? If this is him at his youthful prime, how
are the upcoming years going to treat him? What will he have with
which to literally carry him through the tough times of aging which
are just ahead for him as well as the rest of us? No one will be exempt
from stress with age except those that meet an early demise.
I was angry for I know his parents
and have begged and pleaded with them over the past years to get the
proper care for this young spine before he would end up like he presented
himself to me at my home.
If you are familiar with me and my
writing you may already know that I am passionate about my work as a
chiropractor and applied kinesiologist. You may know too about
the intense focus I give to posture and the body’s ability to perform
work under gravitational load. Make it easy, I love my fellow
man dearly and pain with him when he suffers, and this young man
was suffering needlessly. Oh, I don’t necessarily mean that
when there is suffering there has to be pain, but he did happen to be
struggling with pain in his neck. But rather he is really deeply
showing through his posture and gaits his suffering from the “silent
killer.” He is like any of us to some degree for we are continually
struggling with “vertebral subluxation” the silent killer.
My heart went out to him for he
still didn’t know, and his parents whom I had spent time educating
about the wicked affects of vertebral subluxation, didn’t get it either.
At eighteen he was solid in his postural defects and stiffening
with subluxations, and with them the weaknesses most prevalent in the
righting muscles. From their loss of function he was displaying
to the world, to the potentials for his mating in the future, that he
is weak and unsuitable as a healthy individual. The sign of internal
stress is the signal that poor posture is displaying; muscular weakness
is failure to thrive.
How do I know he is weak?
I tested him. I did so right there and then.
As soon as we had a moment of solace I dragged out my adjusting table
and he popped himself up upon it and we teamed up to physically take
his skeleton to task. Together we manually tested his upper back
and shoulder muscles and soon found what we were looking for, whole
sections of muscular weakness while under a load.
For those of you that are unfamiliar
with the chiropractor and the tremendous health improvements that come
with reducing vertebral subluxations with manual spinal manipulations,
what I did with that young man may seem reckless and cruel or unnecessary
to you. But for those that know chiropractic and especially those
that know me and my methods, what we did right then by adjusting his
spine and extremities, you know about those methods first hand and readily
give full endorsement.
You that have the chiropractic experience
know that adjusting him was instinctively and innately best and right.
Come again? What we did by first examining and then adjusting
this young man’s frame ended up being best for him and his health,
as well as being the right thing to do. Best and right is psychologically
sound doesn’t it? Well it is sound, and when he got off
of the adjusting table after receiving many corrections he was upright
and straight for his muscles could hold and function again. That
is what health is, “everything works, all of the time.” How did
I know he was better? I manually retested his upper back musculature
and this time found them all to be sound and working to capacity.
No testing...you’re guessing!
When a parent or another adult chooses
not to know about health, or when your Doctor chooses not to test and
therefore not to know if your muscles are healthy either; you should
take the onus upon yourself to arrange for the chiropractor to test
and not guess. Let him adjust the pumping motions of your body
structures, the vertebrae and all joints must move. Most of us are about
60% water and moving joints and discs can pump up and then ride on a
cushion of pressure, but the joints and discs must move to do this pumping.
Obesity reduces body water volume. I implore you to get regular
spinal and extremity adjustments therefore helping nerve freedom to
help make you reach your health potential. Chiropractic care can
help you as it is a natural positive healing procedure that sets your
systems back to function, and when trained and maintained they
will stay there on their own.
