On Wednesday February 6, 2013 at the British Colonial Hilton, Junior Achievement New Providence held its annual speech competition. “This final was very exciting as our students were prepared and delivered spine chilling speeches on the topic, IMAGINE ME. I am pleased with the high level of support exhibited this evening from parents, teachers and guidance counselors. Our finalists represented Junior Achievement and their schools well, namely - St. John’s College, C. R Walker, St. Anne’s, C.V. Bethel, Jordan Prince Williams, Queens College, St. Augustine’s College and Aquinas College”, stated Lashanta Smith, Programme Manager, JA New Providence Area.

The Junior Achievement Annual Speech Competition which is facilitated by Toastmasters International has become one of the hallmark events of the 18 week senior high program. “Toastmasters International believes that Junior Achievement is one of the leading youth organizations in The Bahamas, we feel its apt to assist JA with enhancing the communication skills of its student achievers”, exclaimed Toastmasters International Division I Governor – Andrew Albury.

Communication is equivalent to a key to any car you wish to drive. The importance of our contest is to expose youth to the art of communication by pairing them with toastmasters where they learn how to express themselves and how to present. We feel that communication is a tool, once mastered would better equip our achievers for life’s encounters, said Junior Achievement’s Executive Vice-Chairman and Acting Executive Director Philip Simon.
