Nassau, The Bahamas - Exactly two months ago, Steven “Speedy Stevie” Gardiner made history as the first Bahamian male to win an individual men’s event at the Olympics bringing home the gold medal for the 400m. Today, BTC entered into a $100,000 endorsement deal with Steven who will serve as an ambassador of BTC’s “Elevate What’s Next” campaign.

A gracious Gardiner said, “I am really happy and proud about the opportunity to serve as a brand ambassador for BTC as we “Elevate What’s Next”. We share a common desire to elevate, by investing in our goals which requires time, effort and full dedication. I encourage all Bahamians to make the switch to BTC’s SuperFast Internet, which like me is blazing trails.”

A proud BTC CEO, Andre Foster said, “Signing “Speedy Stevie” is indeed a big moment in BTC’s history. For us, it’s more than just an endorsement, he’s now part of the BTC family. I remember like it was yesterday, as I and perhaps the entire world waited with great anticipation as we watched Stevie’s every stride across the track. In just 43.85 seconds, he would make us all proud to be Bahamian. I remember the screams of joy and social media just exploding with ‘242’ pride. This came at such an important time for us as a country still grappling with the effects of the global pandemic. Speedy Stevie’s victory rejuvenated and revived us all!

Stevie’s journey is very similar to BTC’s own and it ultimately represents everything that we are as a company. We both embrace the traits of hard work, dedication and perseverance, striving to be the best at what we do every day. We are happy to have “Speedy Stevie” join the BTC family as an ambassador for our SuperFast Internet, which like him, just keeps getting better and better. When it comes to our internet services, we all need speed and performance that we can rely on, and a network that will go the extra mile. We’re putting in the work and constantly improving to deliver the results that everyone wants. So, just like Stevie, BTC is always giving its all to elevate its performance for all Bahamians,” said Foster.

Sharing in the official contract signing were the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and The Bahamas Olympic Committee.

Commenting on the endorsement deal, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, The Hon. Mario Bowleg said, “From humble beginnings to the world stage, Steven Gardiner was determined to rise. His commitment, hard work and drive propelled him to international fame, with the dream of thousands of Bahamians on his back. He has made the Bahamas proud. “Speedy Stevie”, the jewel of our Family Islands and The Bahamas!”

While “Speedy Stevie” prepared for the Olympics, BTC was also putting in the work, preparing for its quest for best and had already started the fiber expansion and deployment in Gardiner’s home town, Abaco. The company is providing a minimum of 100Mbps of speed to customers throughout the island and is continuing its deployment throughout the Abaco Cays. Residents in Murphy Town, Dundas Town, Central Pines, Don McKay Boulevard and Green Turtle Cay, are now enjoying unmatched connectivity and superior value delivering the best in-home experience.

BTC has the fastest growing fiber internet subscriber base and is adding fiber services to more than 25,000 homes nationwide. BTC is continuing to build out a number of new communities including: Killarney Shores, Coral Heights West, The Fort Charlotte community including Farrington Road, Constitution Drive, Warren Street, Davis Street, Boyd Road, Nassau Street and Quarry Mission. Hooper’s Bay & Moss Town Exuma, Basset Cove and Mayfield Park in Grand Bahama are also about to be elevated.

Gardiner begins a school tour tomorrow and will virtually visit with hundreds of students at H.O. Nash Junior High, L.N. Coakley High School in Exuma, Moore’s Island All Aged School and Sir Jack Hayward School in Grand Bahama.

“Speedy Stevie” is also the World Champion Gold Medalist in the 400m. Gardiner won the Silver Medal at the 2017 World Championships in that event, as well as the Bronze Medal for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in the 4x400 relay. Over the years, BTC has provided endorsement deals for a number of top professional athletes including Shaunae Miller, The Golden Knights, The Golden Girls and Tonique Williams-Darling.
