The Institute of Charted Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC) is pleased to announce that Ms. Jasmine Davis has been elected as it new president for the period 2015-2016. Ms. Davis was elected on June 25th, 2015 at the ICAC’s 72nd Annual General Meeting held in Port of Spain,
Trinidad. She is the first Bahamian woman to hold the prestigious post with the only other Bahamian being Philip Galanis.
After Ms. Davis was elected, in her closing address at the AGM, she outlined several goals for the body to achieve including raising the profile of ICAC both regionally and internationally through “thought leadership”.
“We will seek to rightfully take our place, as Professional Accountants, both regionally and internationally, at the table with governments, policy makers and other stakeholders to ensure that we make meaningful contributions to support sustainability and economic growth,” she said.
“Capacity building and regional technical support are also initiatives that the ICAC Team is committed to. We are also committed to giving back to ensure that the game is continually going on in the region and from generation to generation. The philanthropic arm of the ICAC will be revitalized through a number of regional initiatives that will have an international impact.
ICAC is a network of approximately 3,700 professionals and is the region’s leading organization dedicated to advancing the interest of accountants within the Caribbean. ICAC is a one of six recognized Accountancy Groupings of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
Ms. Davis has served and continues to serve on numerous committees and boards both regionally and nationally, the most recent of which are the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Trust Fund Board of Trustees and the Ministry of Finance’s Value Added Tax (VAT) Private Sector Education Task Force.
Ms. Davis is the Immediate Past President of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) (2012-2014) and currently serves as the Institute’s Vice President. Ms. Davis is also the first woman BICA President to be elected to the Leadership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC) where she served as Vice President to the Regional Accountancy Body (2013-2015) prior to being elected as ICAC President.
A Certified Public Accountant CPA (Illinois 1998), member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and licensed Chartered Accountant CA (Bahamas 2011), she entered the accountancy profession in The Bahamas in 1998 and received her training at PricewaterhouseCoopers After leaving PwC Ms. Davis found her niche as one of few CPAs in the Healthcare & Insurance Industry in The Bahamas. She has held top management positions in the industry during her career and is currently the Vice President of Finance at Doctors Hospital, the premiere private Healthcare Institution in The Bahamas.
