NASSAU,
The Bahamas -- Sammi Star won the Music Masters competition during the first
ever Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival with his song “Everybody Jump in the Line.”
Sammi
Star and nine other finalists performed to thousands of excited spectators on
the second night of the Carnival at Clifford Park, Friday, May 8, 2015.
The
entertainer went home with the $20,000 grand prize and a promotional
partnership with international music conglomerate Sony Music Entertainment

Industry workers like the concept of Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival and want
to see it expand to support their souvenir-making businesses.
“Since
1994, I have been doing crafts but I took a sabbatical and now I’m back
and focusing on only straw products that are indigenous and authentic,
and promoting Bahamian culture,” said Collette Ferguson of ‘Coco Reef
Crafts.’

NASSAU, The Bahamas - Prime Minister,
the Right Hon. Perry G. Christie officially opened Nassau’s first-ever
Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival on Thursday, May 7, in a beachside ceremony at
the Western Esplanade. As he addressed spectators of all walks of life,
in the air was the excitement of the dawn of something new.
The
Prime Minister told the crowd he was ‘optimistic’ about the new festival
and felt that it would bring great opportunities for Bahamians over the
coming years. With three days of fun ahead of them, the crowd was ready
to experience carnival -- with a Bahamian flavour, lots of music, and
the magical ambience of gorgeous sand and sea in the background...

A group from Arthur’s Town, Cat Island, the Webb Family
– called ‘Ophie and the Webbsites’ -- brought Rake ‘n’ Scrape to
Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival this weekend.
Cleophas Webb said his
family has played Rake ‘n’ Scrape from the time he was a child; he
learned it from his father and grandfather, and all of the children
play. It’s regularly played in Cat Island for weddings ...

Grand Bahama makes its mark in Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival - May 11, 2015 - 5:40:03 PM
Nassau, New Providence – A Grand Bahama contingent, over
250- strong, did its island proud in the historic inaugural Bahamas Junkanoo
Carnival which spanned over a three-day period in New Providence.
The Bahamas rolled out the red carpet for its
residents and visitors May 7-9 to show off its unique culture, called Junkanoo,
warm hospitality, arts and crafts and signature dishes.
The impressive display was staged at Arawak
Cay, which was transformed into ‘Da Cultural Village,’ and Clifford Park, which
were also the backdrops of the hottest evening entertainment where Bahamians,
legends and newcomers, shared the spotlight with international artists from Trinidad,
Colombia and Haiti...

Bahamas Junkanoo
Carnival got underway last night in Nassau, as thousands turned out to
the opening ceremony dubbed Junkamania. Performances were given by
Visage with Alison Hinds, Skinny Fabulous and Julien Believe.
There were three other stages: Rake 'n Scrape; Bahamia; and Junkanoo
Tonight
at 8pm the Music Masters top ten finalists will compete for the $20,000
cash prize at Clifford Park. Special performances by Baha Men and
Machel Montano along with one of Haiti's top music groups.

Carnival (BJC) Kickoff Weekend in Grand Bahama sounded off with a bang
Friday night with live Bahamian performances and fireworks and closed
