Global Battle of the Bands Bahamas: Call for the Baddest Bahamian Bands

Nassau, Bahamas – The Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) Bahamas Festival, which takes center stage this year at Nassau’s Botanical Gardens on Saturday, November 2nd, is calling all Bahamian bands of all genres to enter to compete for a chance to be crowned the Best New Band in The Bahamas and travel to Thailand to compete in the GBOB World Finals. The victor at that level will receive $100,000 band development package, a world tour and the title of the Best New Band in the World. take home cash, a music deal, being crowned Best Band in The Bahamas 2013, and, of course, bragging rights for a solid (calendar) year.

Additionally, the winning band will be flown to Thailand in January, 2014 to represent The Bahamas and compete in the GBOB World Finals where the grand winner will be awarded a USD $100,000.00 worth of cash and band development packages, as well as a golden statuette for "Best New Band in the World".

This year’s GBOB World Finals will be just the second time The Bahamas has been represented since the competition began in 2004, providing an avenue for more of the musical talents of Bahamians to be showcased on a world stage.  Winners have come from all across the globe from Canada to China, Rio to Romania, to showcase a multifaceted array of musical styles and cultures.  Last year’s winner was Jamaica’s Di Blueprint Band Dubtonic Kru, with Bahamian native band Stinkin’ Wayz lead by Kirkland ‘KB’ Bodie placing a most respectable third place.

GBOB Bahamas is a the local franchise of Global Battle of the Bands Worldwide, the world’s largest live talent competition for bands of all genres.  The mission of GBOB Bahamas is to ensure that this becomes the most highly anticipated and reputable annual musical event in the Bahamas, where Bahamian bands from throughout our isles are represented and can benefit from a dynamic vehicle premiering their new work, while being afforded the opportunity to get musical exposure both locally, and also countries across the globe.  

All competing bands will be challenged to use a variety of skills to deliver their best performances of their original music compositions. No covers allowed.

Music is to be performed live and judged in several rounds. The audience will be invited to participate by voting for their favourite band in the first two preliminary rounds. In the final judging round that follows, national and international music industry experts will have the final say on who will be crowned “Best Band in The Bahamas”.

GBOB Bahamas is looking for the band that has the best potential of being successful on the international music scene.

GBOB contestant rules:

1. Competition is open to all Bahamian music groups/bands of all genres containing 2-X 8 members (no solo acts). Entry fee $30 per band member

2. All music is played live in front of a live audience

At least half of the group must perform with and play an instrument.3. Contestants will be judged on Musicianship, Vocal Techniques, Appeal and Response, and Originality the quality of their vocal harmony, use of X, and overall musicianship.

4. Song selections must be original; no covers.

5. Although First Place winning groups/band from 2012 may not enter subsequent contests, individual singers members may participate as members of other groups/band.

6. First Place winning group band will return to play at next year’s contest.

7. The contest will be video recorded and each group will be provided an edited

DVD of the contest.

All contestants vie for cash prizes.

Submissions are now being accepted, for bands interested in competing this year.

Applications and recordings will be reviewed by the XGBOB Organizers, and the final contestants selected from applications received on or before August 30th, 2013.

To apply as a contestant, groups bands (no solo acts) with 2-X 8 members must submit an X application form along with requirements by email to gbobbahamas@gmail.com, or drop off to The Counsellors office at 1st Terrace, Collins Avenue.  Attention: GBOB Bahamas Registrant.

Contestant submission deadline is August 30th, 2013
