Avengers: Endgame
Nothing can prepare you for the end.
After the crushing defeat that wiped out half of life in the universe, the remaining band of heroic figures stand together to keep the galaxy from falling into chaos. As they work to maintain a sense of order while dealing with their own loss, a returning hero may have the answer to getting back the departed with a plan that could cost them more than they are willing to risk.
Steve Rogers is Captain America who is doing his best to keep what is left of the Avengers optimistic in the face of a defeat that has obliterated morale and caused shifts in the personalities of certain team members. Natasha Romanoff is Black Widow now leading the remaining Avengers by not only coordinating their efforts on Earth but also keeping tabs on those maintaining order across the known galaxy. Tony Stark is Iron Man settling into the role of family man with Pepper Potts as they care for their daughter leaving the job of defending the planet to others. Scott Lang is Ant-Man who was lost in the quantum realm and thought dead, but returns with a plan for his fellow Avengers to get back what the universe lost. Thanos is a being living with the burden of destiny possessing knowledge gleaned by circumstances beyond his sphere of influence but attainable within his grasp of power.
Avengers: Endgame is a phenomenal representation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that successfully wraps up the current saga with satisfying narrative finality while opening new avenues just brimming with exciting storytelling potential. I found this theatrical release to be an amazing achievement in 22 films of connected live action superhero modern myth-weaving worthy of awe and adoration for its proficiency of global inclusion. The entire cast is on their A game, giving performances that capture the believable moments in the most unbelievable events with the talent to make the audience experiencing it suspend their disbelief indefinitely. Anthony and Joe Russo had a herculean task of directing this historic cinematic undertaking and were able to pull it off brilliantly. Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely deliver a screenplay that stays true to the characters at different points in their lives as it casts the hope of a brighter future from a gloomy present with questionable leaps of logic where the timing is concerned. Kevin Feige as producer is able to shepherd this entry into the annals of the MCU possessing a vision that few could understand and even fewer could accomplish, while blessed with the skill of a film-making virtuoso carrying years of experience under his belt. If you like television shows like Quantum Leap, The Time Tunnel, Sliders, Odyssey 5, Steins;Gate, Making History, Timeless or Doctor Who and films such as Back To The Future, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Safety Not Guaranteed, About Time, Source Code, Donnie Darko, Star Trek IV or Terminator 2 then you will find something to like in this motion picture and something to nitpick over. This is the greatest hits of Marvel movies with a sly commentary on the brashness of youth vs the tactfulness of maturity told in an adventurous yarn for the ages whilst spanning space & time. I rate this film a rating of 4 & 1/2 out of 5.
