Veronica Mars - An interesting cinematic entry into the detective genre that gives a sample of the small screen private investigating prowess of its lead and her corruptible home town to the big screen.

She Thought She Was Out.

A former teenage sleuth is pulled back into a life she thought she had left behind when a message from an ex-lover causes her to return to her home town. While there she reacquaints herself with family & friends but old habits die hard when things don't seem right and she finds herself in the midst of a mystery needing to be solved.

Veronica Mars is a law student on the verge of getting a job at a high-end New York law firm but a call from her past boyfriend brings her to her old stomping grounds of Neptune to use her background in investigation to help him find the right attorney for his case. Logan Echolls is the son of Hollywood stars who has been living in the shadow of his father's murder scandal and must now endure the court of public opinion as he is the main suspect in the death of an old classmate/ pop diva. Stosh 'Piz' Piznarski is Veronica's college sweetheart and current boyfriend who works at a New York radio station and is looking forward to surprising her at her high school reunion thanks to her friends Wallace Fennel & Cindy 'Mac' Mackenzie. Gia Goodman is a former classmate of Veronica who is connected to the present investigation in ways she doesn't realize, but as she continues her present lifestyle the past is slowly darkening her supposed bright future.

Veronica Mars the movie... not sure if I can be a neutral observer of this film since I did donate to the Kickstarter campaign, but I guess since I did if it sucked I would be pissed. So I am overjoyed to report that this film did not suck in the least and lived up to the best episodes of the television series that it evolved from. The main cast members from the three seasons of the original television show are all here in varying degrees and it does feel like catching up with old friends. Rob Thomas does a great job of bringing his creation to the big screen and has proven that his vision of a plucky teen heroine has matured nicely in his neo-noir world. Just because a place is sunny with picturesque beaches does not mean the people who inhabit it do not live shadowy lives and that the class war of the haves & have nots isn't raging. I rate this film a rating of 4 out of 5. Watch this as soon as possible in a theater if a possibility but since it has also been released to purchase online through sites like iTunes it can be enjoyed in a diverse array of media forms.

P.S.
There is a fun mid-end credit scene of a web cam tablet hacked James Franco seeing what words rhyme with Orange. B~)
