SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS
ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 10:35 AM TO 12:35 PM EDT
FRIDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2021.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN
EFFECT WEST END GRAND BAHAMA, GREAT EXUMA, LONG ISLAND, ACKLINS,
CROOKED ISLAND AND RAGGED ISLAND ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.
AT
10:30AM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED A
CLUSTER OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH LOW TO
MID LEVEL TROUGHING AND A MOIST UNSTABLE AIRMALL MOVING NORTHWESTWARD
TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREA.
SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS
WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING,
HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.
LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THESE STORMS.
BOATERS
IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE
WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS
WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS
THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
