Award Winning Bahamian Filmmaker to Conduct Workshop for FLIFF on Location: Grand Bahama film festival

Grand Bahama Island – Award-winning film director, producer, and writer, Kareem Mortimer will share filmmaking experiences and tips for success when he conducts a filmmakers workshop at the inaugural Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) on Location: Grand Bahama Island.

The workshop, scheduled for Friday, October 28th at the Canal House, Pelican Bay Hotel, is entitled, From script to screen:  How to get your films made in the Caribbean.

“In this workshop, we will talk about my process as a filmmaker as well as view clips,” said Mr. Mortimer, who is the winner of the Aruba International Film Festival’s 2011 Caribbean Spotlight Award. The workshop will be in three parts with a focus on story and structure, pitching and packaging, production, business, marketing, festivals and distribution.

Born October 17, 1980 in Nassau, Kareem Mortimer is a Bahamian filmmaker, who has completed several films: Chance (2005), The Eleutheran Adventure (2006), Float (2007), Children of God (2010) and Wind Jammers (2010).

The list of international filmmakers attending FLIFF on Location: Grand Bahama Island include actor, Dennis Haysbert, who will be receiving the Career Achievement Award; writer/actors Martin Grey and Drew Pillsbury; director Bo Durrant; producers Scott Cardinal and Theresa Pico.

Scheduled to take place over October 27th – 30th, FLIFF on-Location: Grand Bahama Island will feature:

    • Underwater Cinematography Workshop by award-winning cinematographer Paul Mockler
    • Complimentary outdoor screenings
    • International Student Film Competition and
    • The inaugural ‘Grand Bahama Youth Film Competition’ Winner’s Screening - a competition for young filmmakers (14 to 18 years old).

Actor DENNIS HAYSBERT will receive The 1st Career Achievement Award presented by FLIFF On-Location: Grand Bahama Island on Friday, October 28. The event begins with a ceremony at the Canal House, located in Pelican Bay Resort, the Host Hotel for the festival. A montage of Mr. Haysbert's career will screen followed by remarks by Mr. Haysbert and a question and answer section. Then all in attendance will adjourn to poolside where a reception in Mr. Haysbert's honor will take place.
