Freeport, Bahamas- The Grand Bahama Youth Film Competition is calling for all 12 to 18 year olds on Grand Bahama to submit a short film by midnight, 1st August 2011 in order to win some incredible prizes.  Parents are asked to encourage their children to turn this opportunity into a learning experience during the summer time.

Teenagers who fall in the age range at the deadline, can make a film, five minutes or less, with the theme ‘A Conversation in Grand Bahama’ and win $500 cash, a professional quality video camera, a trip to Fort Lauderdale Film Festival (FLIFF), attend a master class workshop with professional cinematographers and have their film screened at FLIFF on location at Grand Bahama and in Florida.

The organizers state that they are not expecting excellent quality equipment to be used.  Competitors can use a cell phone, flip or digital camera, webcam or indeed anything that can film.  Any style or type of film will be considered so long as it does not exceed 5 minutes in length.  It is also worth noting that the term ‘conversation’ can be interpreted in the widest sense meaning and exchange of ideas between one entity and another.  Any style of filming will be considered.

Free editing software links, additional help and all competition details are available on the facebook page, just search for Grand Bahama Youth Film Competition.  If competitors have any questions they can reach the committee through facebook or by email gbyfcc@gmail.com

Laurie Tuchel, Chairman of the GB Youth Film Committee, says, “We are asking parents to encourage their children to enter.  This is a really wonderful opportunity for our island's youth. They will have a chance to personally meet international filmmakers as well as the directors of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. Our winner will gain an insider's view of the filmmaking world.

Our sponsors have put up wonderful prizes, including a $500 cash prize by the Grand Bahama Heritage Foundation. Our other sponsors include The Bahamas Weekly, Municipal Motors Ltd and" Mr. Bahamas"- Robert Harris. We thank all of them for their support and commitment to Grand Bahamas' youth.  Remember to search for GRAND BAHAMA YOUTH FILM COMPETITION on Facebook for all the details. You do not need to have a Facebook account to access our page.”
