You are loved was the
feelings conveyed by the
Employee Councils of Freeport Container Port, Grand Bahama Airport Company
and Freeport Harbour Company as they fed residents of the Grand Bahama
Home for the Aged during a Pre-Valentine’s Day luncheon last week.
The
staff members demonstrated that they were not too self-absorbed with
feelings that they couldn’t appreciate or focus their love on the
elderly and for a couple of hours to make them feel loved and remembered.
Phil
Carey, Grand Bahama Airport Company Airport Director said “It is commendable
for members of the Employee Councils to reach out in this manner and
do something for the elderly.”
“There
is nothing lacking in their decision to just be an expression of love
to the residents of this home; it is a true expression of love,” said
Mr. Carey.

Members
of the staff of the home, Rose Rena and Leanna Davis were pleased with
the visit as they too were as excited as the residents to have company
for lunch. There was singing led by Mr. Wallace a resident and
expressions of delights were heard from other residents who chatted
with the visitors as they were served, among them a ninety-nine year
old resident of the home.
In
addition to the lunch, the home received a supply of groceries donated
by the Employee Councils.
President
of the Freeport Container Port Employee Council, Ivan Barnett, said
members thought that this ‘love gesture’ would not only afford them
the opportunity to show these residents of the home that they are special
and not to be forgotten, “But it gives us a chance to lift our spirits
in a small way as they welcome us to their home.”
In
the past the Employee Councils have rendered assistance to the Dialakids
Foundation, sponsored a Fun Run/Walk and a Health and Safety Family
Fun Day. They are also in the process of coordinating a Relief Drive
for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Xavier Ingraham, Employee Council Chairman, GB Airport Company, takes time to ensures that Felix Wallace, a resident of the home get his meal.
